Hi,
I'll be travelling to Kauai in the next few weeks, but wont be able to take my gear.
Does anyone know of anywhere to hire gear there? I've sent a msg to Kitesurf Kauai, but havent heard back yet and cant seem to find any other options there...
Cheers
Most places around the world won't hire kites, I'm assuming because of liability if you get killed.
I kited Maui and was able to hire a board but had to take my own kite.
The only way around this is to organize it as a "lesson". So an instructor comes out with you. Obviously this is expensive and only for the pre booked time limit.
If you plan lots of kiting then squeeze in your own kite/harness or buy some cheap stuff there.
Can't help with places on Kauai, but on O'ahu the place wasn't that responsive to emails, but on phone confirmed they would hire only after they could confirm you could actually kite e.g. sell you a short "lesson" baked into the gear hire price that would basically be them watching initially to make sure you knew what you were doing. Sadly between booking things and getting to the beach the wind dies to 15m+ kite range which they didn't have for hire.
On the other side of things, paying for extra baggage on the flights would likely still work out cheaper than hiring gear there for any reasonable time.
Ive never been to Kauai cant help you there but I have managed to hire gear at Kailua on Oahu . Terms were similar to how azza2u explains it . I actually paid for a 3 hour lesson , instructor checks you out to make sure that ya can kite and then the gears yours for the 3 hours . Worked out well to get a kite fix in. It could get quite expensive though if you did this for more than a couple of days .
Cheers!
I ended up finding 2 kite schools in kauai. One said they don't hire gear, the other they do as long as I can prove I can kite. So should be sorted to sneak in a quick session one day ??
Would love to take my own gear, but Hawaii is a little bonus on the end of a mainland usa trip.
