Background:
Event 1 ( late last year)
front stalled 17m, mid air kite flips inside out, unsure what to do, flew it back to shore.
Event 2 (today Southern end Goldie)
crashed 10m on the surf, set wave hits kite, relaunched inside out, flying it back to shore. Kite crashes again and relaunched back to normal, but now right front line and right center lines are twisted.
Q.: is there a sound way of "Unflipping" the kite in the water? Will it always come back with lines twisted?
I've chucked em back in the water and pulled a front line till it flipped back. Not sure its an actual technique. Just me trying **** whilst floating in the ocean.
pulling the safety and resetting might have the same effect. But i havent tried it.
Flying inside out puts a lot of stress on the inside seams of the leading edge. Popped my 10m once from this. Better to punch out and grab one steering line to let the kite flag out and settle.
Paperfolder,
For the inversion, try hitting the safety, flag the kite out, resetting and relaunching. As for the crossed lines, it happens and usually the safest thing to do is to fly it back to the beach, land it and re-rig.

Thanks for the tips, will give this a go if needed.

I didn't know that it would be that bad, don't get me wrong I new that it wasn't doing any good either. However, it was a split sec decision. So it raises another question:
What has the potential to cause greater damage to the kite, flying it inside out or letting it cope 3-5ft waves untill out of impact zone?
cheers

Thanks mate, appreciate the advice. When I crashed I was on the impact zone 3-5ft surf. Had to make a call in a split second.
next time I will try and fly it past the break and flag it.
cheers
Hard call as both are bad. If you're talking outright damage, waves can completely trash a kite whereas if it pops from inversion it's likely to be localized to the failure point. If flying inverted, try to limit the stress on the kite by depowering as much as possible. Maybe get the kite up out of the wave zone and body drag in?
Two most common ways the kite inverts is-
1- not redirecting the kite during a jump, and making the kite stall as you pendulum / swing underneath.
2- crashing the kite, and continuing to ride..... Making the lines slack and causing invert. (Most common)
You can just punch out and let the kite flag all the way.
It'll pull the LE upwind and get the inversion out every time......... but its 50/50 whether your front lines are wrapped around the rear lines.
In lightwind, if they're all twisted you can sometimes unhook and counter-invert the bar.
Its a f@#! around but!..
Majority of the time its easier to head in and fix it up.
Give'r a shot next time....
Depends on the kite too. Bigger kites need probably a lot more air to hold their shape better. Next time, try and pump an extra 10-15 pumps. Really pump the kite hard to the point of you not being able to bend one of the wing tips. Just don't crash it though!
