This will have been asked a 1000 times, but i don't have time to look. Going to Fiji end of May, am going to conference on Denaru Island, but have 4 days to book on Coral Coast first, can stay any hotel, can someone give me the name of kiteable beaches or Hotels close by or is there going to be wind that time of year.
Cheers in advance.

Prevailing wind should be onshore I think if I'm looking at the right place on a map. Not that helpful but I've been to Malolo Island resort which is kitable. It's part of the Mamanuca island chain to the west of Nadi. There is a big sandbar nearby that is popular for flat water and learners. Plantation island and Musket Cove resorts are the most popular in the area. Further afield, Namotu island apparently is awesome, as is Tavarua Both are near cloudbreak surf break.

I just got back from 8 days in Fiji, our 4th trip there. Had a few days on Castaway Island - there was only 1 kiteable day out of 5. We then had 3 nights at Denarau - I was surprised to get 3 sessions in there. The SE trades that blow this time of year seemed to funnel through there and there was a good 15kts each day we were there, but you will need to go from the Sheraton, the only place with a suitable beach. Have been to Coral Coast a couple of times. Last year went to the Beachouse, which is a budget backpacker place but still a nice place to stay - it had a good lagoon and good kiting, but the wind was light - take your biggest kite and board. Also stayed at the Outrigger a couple of years ago - a bit more upmarket and also a kiteable lagoon there. Enjoy!

G'day Bayside,

i travelled to the Coral Coast a few years back and stayed at The Outrigger near Sigatoka for 7 days in mid October. Searching the web didn't yield much regarding Kiting the area however the SE trades were blowing at that time and I figured I could always find a launch spot somewhere. Long story short I ended up Kiting 5 of 7 days just on the eastern side of the resort. The launch spot is a dried up creek bed next to the resort. Wind would kick in around 10am everyday and last to 5-6pm at night. I was typically well lit on my 11 Naish Park. I'd recommend getting someone to launch you as the reef and rocks are razor sharp. The other issue is around the tides. I found the only kitable times to kite in the lagoon was mid to high tide. If you have flexibility, plan your trip when the tides are on the rise from early morning. Stay upwind of the flagged swimming area directly in front on the resort. Overall, I didn't have a choice where to stay and when as it was for a mates birthday. I'd stay on one of the offshore islands if I did have to choose in order to hit the waves, in saying this though, I had a great time on the Coral Coast and the Kiting conditions surprised me. I remember the crystal blue water glassed off so you can see the colours of the reef below and chasing baby sharks into the shallows on each tack. Good times ?? Best of luck with your trip and the search.
cheers.
