Just back from Kite Skiing my way across the entire Antarctic continent - I am trying to build a team of dedicated Kite Surfers/Skiers to head back there to set records for the largest Kite group to use Kites to get from the SOUTH POLE to the Edge of the Continent - 1131 ams - the best Kite trip on EARTH !!! Please let me know if you are interested - email me geoff@5thelementexpeditions.com and register your interest - Training is in NZ - Aug 2-10th this year ! Also heading to the AMAZON leading a SUP team if you need a kiteless adventure - same email.
- Polar Adventurer - Geoff Wilson.
Although I am sure LEI would work, my guess is that that foil are more suited to an antartic expedition because:
* less things can go wrong with them (no bladder issue)
* no need to carry a pump
* lighter and more compact than LEI
i am intrested but are you expecting us to pay anything outside of getting ourselves there and back?
Followed seb copeland for a few years on some of his adventures, powering himself and a 200lb sledge using a foil , you'd have to be confident of your ability to join him on an adventure,
Yes Seb was one of my mentors - I trained with Eric McNair Landry who trekked with Seb across the Big A - We used Foils exclusively due to the fact that at -20 C to -40 C the ILE bladders rupture after some time - my trip was 53 days solo, 3428 km - fastest solo unsupported crossing of Antarctica to date - dragging a bright pink set of Boobs to raise funds for the McGrath Foundation! - what I am trying to do is setup a group of Hardcore guys/gals to tackle the Kite from S Pole to the edge - So far Jess, Christelle, Simon - All Kited with me across the Torres in our second and successful attempt up there - they are joining me in NZ for Polar Training - thats the first step - If you are keen - its a rare opportunity for 1 on 1 training with someone who s done the Kite Miles and survived solo down there... email me for more info if serious.
Wow, that's a hell of an achievement Geoff.
Would love to do the South Pole to southern ocean trip but not realistic at the moment. One for the bucket list for sure...
What sort of all up budget are you looking at per person so I can keep it in mind for the future?
Dave the training in NZ will cost close to $6k but it will save travel to Northern Hemisphere training sites - I spent 20 k training last year alone ! But the eventual trip to South Pole we ll have to try and get sponsors for as the flight to S Pole alone is $50 k - Yihaa - the Southern Ice is pristine and isolated - very difficult to get to with only 2 real suppliers of in/out strategies... hence the mad cost - but the rewards match the cost ! Keep in touch - Geoff
