The new site looks good but i'm assuming it's not quite finished as the forum isn't there... and the sorting events by date didn't work for me either.

I've just renewed my membership for the '09 season which appeared to work. I'm assuming we should get the tags in the post sooner or later.

Tags usually take a little while as they come out from AKSA - unless things have changed.

KBV received their batch of 2008/09 tags today and intend to distribute them by mail over this coming week. If we get ourselves organised tags may be available for distribution at the Season Opening on Sunday.

The revamped KBV Website is open but some sections are still being worked on. Please bear with us as the revised site is all based on volunteers assisting KBV in their own time.

As for date sorts for the 2008/09 Events please understand this is a first for KBV where a proposed program for the season is published.

Ah all cool.
Please don't take my comment as criticisms! The new website really does look great and it'll be awesome once it's all finished. I understand how long these things take to get going and the amount of behind the scenes stuff that has to happen before us general public get to see any of it. :)

Look forward to the season opening at Brighton.
Just wish my shoulder would hurry up and fix itself and then i'll be back out on the water.

Thanks Korma. Your points were well made.

Just wanted to make certain people were aware that the KBV Committee embarked upon a major program with changes in the website, events program including the related permits, re-establishing relationships with the key authorities, and are about to release a range of KBV badged merchandise along with new Membership initiatives. Shortly KBV will be undertaking a Membership drive and working more closely with Victorian based industry participants to encourage greater KBV Membership.

The KBV Committee has an objective to promote a safe and high access environment for all Kiters and by increasing the percentage of Kiter participation in KBV with the related AKSA insurance we are better placed to meet this objective. This is unlike other States and overseas where high levels of restrictions are invoked in what would otherwise be premium kiting areas.

Is there anywhere to sign up as a new member on the site? I see there's a membership renewal page, but I couldn't find any info on becoming a new member, membership types, costs, etc.??

Hoping to drop down on Sunday and check it all out though... sounds good.

My partner and I joined KBV 2 months ago. Does this mean I paid the full amount for only 2 months of cover and I have to renew already or do I get 12 months coverage ?

We won't be able to make it to Brighton as we'll be in Adelaide

Hi Cut - you and your partner [presumably the person registered as a Member at the same address] are included in the 2008/09 season as are others who joined just prior to the season officially opening.

You may check your status anytime on the KBV website.

As a reminder Tags will be distributed to those who attend Brighton this Sunday or mailed to them during the following week.

Ewan are you using your login and password properly as many new members have signed in today? - give us a PM if you have continuing problems as we do not wish to disclose private details.

Just a reminder the KBV Season Opener is on at Brighton Beach - Kite Beach - starting at 2.00pm Sunday 2nd November - many of the local Industry Particiapants are supporting KBV and the Brighton Life Saving Club with demonstrations of their new gear.

You will have the opportunity to sign up with KBV and receive your 2008/09 tag on the spot. We look forward to your continued support of KBV and its efforts in promoting safe kiting and to keep our beaches open to all.

Paddleboards got a good workout. The featherweights got a bit of kiting done before the rain came through. Oh, and a special appearance of a Naish X4 30m and then an IRB recovery mission. ;)

Firstly a big thank you to all those who contributed to KBV’s Season Opener - the winds could have been kinder but at least it was warm [for Melbourne].

I have just been trying to piece the bits together which made up the day.
Industry Participants set their gear up early including tents and board displays - so despite low winds Brighton Kite Beach looked awesome.

The winds were not kind with Northerlies of 18 knots at 2.pm dropping off to 4 knots before a 10 knot South South Easterly. Well done the juniors who completed the downwinder from StKilda to Brighton at 2.00pm and Chris from Kite Republic supporting them with his Zodiac.

And thank you all for supporting the Brighton Life Saving Club with your donations – over $150 was contributed in “gold coins”. BLSC do a great job in assisting all beachgoers and kiters have a safe and enjoyable time at Brighton. Thanks are also due to Kite Beach as the local team who watch over those at Brighton.

Highlights of the day were the 30metre, yes that was 30metre, kite from Flexifoil Matt that a number of keen kiters tried. I understand the Zodiac was kept busy on all occasions as many of the adventures “disappeared” [lost ground] around the point out of sight of the keen gallery on the hill. And was that a KBV Committee Member flying a kite without a safety…..surely not……..

Many new Members were signed up along with many expressing a keen interest. The allocation of Tags Numbers was well supported but why were 69, 696 and 6969 so keenly sought after?? As an aside there appears to be some confusion regarding KBV and AKSA Memberships. Any member of KBV is automatically a member of AKSA and vice versa. Your address determines which State Association you are a member of even if you sign up through AKSA and if your residential address is Victoria then you become a Member of KBV.

Once again thank you for your participation and KBV look forward to seeing you at the Victorian Titles to be held on Friday 21 November to Sunday 23 November 2008. Check the KBV Website for details.
