hi all, just wondering if anybody is able to help me.
am starting to jump regularly, but a lot of the times i seem to twist my body and land blindly (pulled it off once, but most times go over on my back).
is anybody able to help me with regard to a good jumping technique (ie. to try and stop the twist). probably just need to keep at it, but if anyone can help me, that'd be great.

Why not just jump and commit to the rotation? Make it a back roll.
If you find your coming down backwards or sideways, just keep looking over your shoulder in the direction your rotating, then spot your landing and you'll make it.

As for avoiding the rotation, try bringing your kite back across and down a bit earlier. Chances are your doing the dangle and spinning under the kite.

1. hold your egde longer before you leave the water. this will give you a more stable takeoff.

2. tuck your knees up while in the air

look where you are wanting to go and don't use the kite as much go for a timed pop off a good ramp and you will leave the water cleanly, if you want to front roll look over ya back shoulder after ya pop for a back roll look over ya front shoulder- its easier as you can have half of it done before you leave the water.
your main lead is your head- which may be what you are doing to have this problem, so spot your take off and landing will help, and don't take the kite to far back as thes type of take offs can throw ya off balance

Fellas, I reckon this bloke is asking for a carby for a 78 Kingswood and you are giving hime formula one EFI advice??

Keep it simple and pay attention to how/when you are jamming your rear foot (if you are).

What kind of kite are you flying - bow/hybrids, C etc? I ask this cause I am new to bows - from Cs - and find I have been rotating forward (not over as in a forward roll) so have been getting a bit blind by mistake. I think there is very differant launch/flight characteristics at play and need to unlearn my old boost method.

Also are you boosting in wind that is very 'side-on' to the swell or running pretty much straight behind the swell? Wind that is side on to the swell makes it very easy to accidently rotate I reckon.

Good luck with the carby.

If you’re doing a plain vanilla jump, when you start to come down from the jump you should be pulling on the front hand to bring the kite down in front of you. When pulling on the bar as well as pulling down you can also either push it away (correct for forward rotation) or pull it towards you (correct for back rotation).

The push away or pull towards you is very subtle but is enough to influence your body rotation.

If you are rotating clockwise which is common with new riders, i.e. to the right, then try edge a little harder to the left/back just as you take off, this should counter your rotation. i.e. the carve to lift off shouldn't be a straight line, it should have a little curve right at the end just where you lift off. Let me know if you don't understand what I mean and I'll try to draw a picture of it.

you are probably over flying the kite ( taking it way past 2 oclock or past 12 if its a full bow. ) also use your hip more to control the rotation...try to twist your body into a straighter position if you feel you are turning.....and once you start to get it going for you....really crank your kite...you will boost huge especially if you can nail a kicker on take off...

The thing that work for me was to lean back and point the board to the sky just after leaving the water. Basically do a deadman but don't let go of the bar. This stopped any rotation on takeoff and gave me more confidence when jumping. Grabbing the board with one hand will help but requires a bit of confidence when in the air especially when you are already having rotation issues .After a while you start to get more of a feel for things and you won't need to do this. Also when looking down to spot my landing I think I was dropping my front shoulder which caused me to start to slowly rotate? .Anyway keep trying different things and you will find something that works for you. I still suck at landings but going up is the best part anyway.

can't we point the board opposite the unintended way to counter the rotation

thanks everyone for your help. am flying on bows on flat water.
worked on the jumping technique today and all the advice definitely helped.
had a couple of good back slaps, but a lot less than before.
good feeling when you start to nail the landings (after an even better feeling of takeoff).
