kiters upsetting locals.....

A LOCAL woman has raised concerns after she saw five windsurfers "hooning" through the delicate Creery Wetlands.
Joanne McVey said she was disgusted to see the windsurfers "haul their boards past the protective fencing", to use the wetlands as their own personal surfing spot.
"[They] were belting along at ridiculous speeds through masses of swans and other water birds that use this area for respite," she said in an email to the Mandurah Mail.
"The amount of reserve for Mandurah's wildlife is dwindling to a despondently small amount and I am appalled and sickened by their blatant disregard for the animal sanctuary.
"Those windsurfers are an abomination and I am totally disgusted."
Ms McVey said she thought some of the swans in particular were struck by the windsurfers.
The Creery Wetlands consist of a number of low profile islands inhabited by a great diversity of plants, invertebrate, reptiles, fish, birds and other mammals, and is surrounded by shallow waters.
These wetlands are of international importance as this wetland area supports more than 80 species of birds, including more than 20 species of migratory shorebirds which visit between October and March each year.

I'm also concerned about disgusting windsurfers and abominations ![]()
Geezus people are stupid.. Cause clearly your more interested in killing birds than what you are enjoying the environment..
I had a guy try and chase me in a tinny on my foil in a "bird sanctuary" near one of my spots.. After he eventually caught me, He was so interested in telling me off not that he didn't appreciate the irony that he in his tinny was in a motor boat free area..
The irony is that all the powers that be ie the relevant government officials have given permission to sail there.
The other irony is that a lot of the people complaining are quite happy to have their houses on what was the majority of the Creary wetlands before development
“[They] were belting along at ridiculous speeds through masses of swans and other water birds that use this area for respite,” she said in an email to the Mandurah Mail.
Its hard to believe any of her story when she claims a windsurfer was doing that. lol ![]()
Telephoto effect for sure, but I guarantee you this photo in particular is going to do some damage. It's not a good look. ![]()
Whether its a sail permitted zone or not, some common sense should be used if there is wildlife around. There's no need to endanger the wildlife for our own fun.
If that photo is indeed the incident the woman has reported then perhaps someone should yank their chain a little.
Not cool.
Here we go again. Someone from the fun police has a whinge and we get knuckleheads on this forum fuelling the media frenzy ffs!
There is no way you are going to catch and run down a bird on a windsurfer, and the last thing the windsurfer wants to do is have a collision with a bird. Especially a big one. Its the knuckleheads on here that need to exercise some common sense. The guys weren't down there with guns shooting the wildlife.
Better watch out next time there is a bird on the water at your spot Sammyjay. Someone may be lurking with a camera.
There's no need to endanger the wildlife for our own fun.
Not cool.
Yeah, tell that to the ton of roadkill you see while driving across our wide brown land.
lol.
I think there is one important message that wa kiters should take from this and that is that creery pond has epic flat water on a strong westerly !!!
See ya soon windsurfers ( and swans) ![]()
Ultimate irony is no doubt the fact that these people fall head over heels protecting the "native wildlife", but live in a country that slaughtered the Kooris and continues to stand by watching (and enabling) the demise of their race and culture... ![]()
.
The fun police used to get upset about kiters getting close to Edward Island off Lancelin because of the birds. Turns out the birds didn't give a ****.
Boomerang ![]()
Best not to be throwing stones in glass houses, save you have yours come crashing in on you. What a foolish person.

wouldn't suprise me one bit if waveslave didn't play a key role in this....
Its got his mark all over it.
Yes, the kiters upset the local windsurfers by not having any part of the story.
Personally I blame the SUPs.
Dear Slave
Go take a bex and have a good lay down.
If you could read, I started the post "It's not just us..."
I'm the first to agree with you that kiting isn't a crime, I've never said it was. If you can't see the irony in this post, perhaps that's a reflection on yourself. If you need me to, I'll spell it out slowly for you?
Given that others have clarified about what local rangers are reported to have said about access to that stretch of water, the story was more about the misinformed commentary by the bird lover.
As for poking the bear in "your neck of the woods" - please show us all the signs point to "Slave's Beach" - we'd all love to know exactly where that is cause we know how much you like to share.
Finally, please do catch up. It was several yrs ago when I was involved with WAKSA - I'm not sure if your attempt to drag the association into this rant of yours is mildly amusing or just borderline sad, but it is simply a million miles off the mark.
happy days to you,
Juddy
i'd love to go to slave's beach . Can anyone point me to his local ?![]()
