Looks like Nick had a pretty insane session today scoring 26.7m in Denmark. Almost 2m above Hadlow. Hoping its legit and hopefully he might have some footage, but even for a guy like Nick 26.7m sounds a bit crazy, especially if he had an 8g crash before the jump. If it is legit he is one step closer to flying to the moon!
if you understood how these devices worked you wouldn't be counting the meters. it is one of the least accurate ways to measure height on a single axis (up and down) they measure quite differently when being lobbed in an arc. i do not know why they dont fork out the few extra dollers for some flight computer components. we are talking $5 for a sensor here.
EITHER WAY
a woo verse another woo altho one can be gamed to give a higher reading i would not doubt both were gaming them. notice his aggressive board flick at the end. this would whip the cheap accelerometer and team that with a 9 axis motion sensor (playstation 3 anyone?) a variometer is only 5 quid and does not use that much battery and a gps is only another 5 bucks aswell. and we are talking small units here say 100 or so.
anyways let the board whipping begin.
of course i could be wrong. just put your woo in a long sock and give it a good huck around your house see if you can get it to measure more then half your ceiling height.
not taking anything away from nic it is an incredible jump i just happened to notice the almost violent board flick at the peak of the jump is all.
Yes the Woos are not accurate - the accelerometers tend to work better from a sudden direction change off smaller waves...
If riding up a biiger smoother ramp without the Wip you dont get bugger all..
Tried it with 30m lines - it barely gives you any height, tried 20m lines, gives u a better reading.
Just arrived back last week from kiting a big storm Ireland, 40+ knots with massive gusts later increasing to 70..
Perfect conditions 4m sets, flat in between, full speed, extra elevator height ..
Looking down on kites - my biggest jumps ever..
Only 12.2 freckn meters WTF
I got 12.4m on my medium wind 12m kite on the swan river.
Id like to use the exact woo these guys use ![]()

i remember reading a review where two woos were on the same board giving different readings (substantially different) not sure these are there yet for accuracy.
Has anyone compared xenser/piq/woo/ garmin watch (or other)?
Blah blah blah it's not accurate.
It's awesome these guys are challenging themselves and grabbing their balls. Good on them. I'm sure it makes it more fun that way.

... I have a Garmin Watch, Quatix. One day I took the time to calibrate it for best results then after a session I checked what it came up with. Uploaded the info and sure, it showed all the jumps, but it also reckons one of them was 25m!!!! Noooooo****** way!! I would have been lucking if it was 5 or 6m so from then on I have ignored the heights.
It is however pretty accurate in the distances of the jumps as you can see easily where you take off from and then land. Put the track onto google earth and was easy to see and therefore measure.
Apparently the Garmin uses barometer and gps data for accuracy,,,, nope, try again Garmin, close but not good enough.
cheers,
Robbie :)

why do you keep directing everyone to that pirouette **** show seabreeze is miles better
puetz the barometers are actually sensitive to light of all things so im sure our watch is fully enclosed. and even water proof. this then would mean the barometric pressure inside the watch should pretty much stay the same.
i am sure it would be useful perhaps riding a bike up a mountain ridge line etc given large amounts of time to adjust, think of the pressure change in a water bottle as you climb to cruising altitude in a plane.
this is one of the issues with using a barometer for measuring kite jumps but all that would be required is a permeable membrane that would nearly stop all water (wetsuits anyone?) but still allow for the atmospheric pressure. if you fold a bag several times air can still get thru all the loose folds but water will not. not exactly rocket science. all they had to do was ask a smoker how he gets his ciggy fix out on the water and they would have been able to show a plethora of home job waterproofing methods.
but were not interested in function we are only interested in sleek sell-able designs
anyone else think it looked less than 26m ?
no doubt the guy goes massive, but to me that didn't look that high.... Let alone 26m

The only video I've seen from the day is a 15.4m kiteloop on his Facebook and Instagram. If the 26m one is out there can someone direct me too it ![]()
Cheers mate.
Agree it didn't look much like 26m looked around the same as the 15m one I saw. I've got into he 15m range a few times and that's all it looks to me. I like going out and trying to beat my records but I'm not sold on the accuracy of the woo for sure. What you do with the board in the air and at the top of your jump can have a decent effect on heights from a few things I've tried. Anyway that's my 2c
Looked huge, but similar to the 15m one I agree. Pretty sure I have seen Matt988 similar height, but maybe not with that hang time. 9m kite in 45 knots is mind bogglingly scary!
Matts Pb is 16m I think and looked similar.
But in fairness that might not have been the 26m boost on the video.
anyone else think it looked less than 26m ?
no doubt the guy goes massive, but to me that didn't look that high.... Let alone 26m
Looks 15 - 16m tops, what a Crock of ****e !! Too much playing with balls I think
But hey maybe we all can have a go with his 'Woo' its Special
No way thats a 26mtr jump, just comparing the length of his kite lines to the max height he gets, looks more like the 15-16 mtrs in that video
That was a pretty dodgy mobile phone video.. I don'tthibk it's fair to the bloke that it is a record of his 26m jump.
Who knows!?
I know this thread is now aimed at the woo.
But
Most of us kiting in that wind on a 9m are just putting the brakes on and reaching for some trim waiting for the squal to pass.
He does the opposite, hits the gas and owns it.
This is a douchey thread, jump was mad....love to see some of the keyboard heroes here do it.
So people who understand physics talk science and its a douchey thread?
Everyone loves Nicks riding. Jump was mad. Wasn't 20m+
Device isn't accurate- If I was management at Woo, Id probably not wanting people viewing the footage as you can tell they are inaccurate by a significant %.
And there's the few of us that will go out in perfect Nuclear weather conditions / wind angles and punch it as hard as we can !
Read my first post - then add todays 10m high half assed chop hop jump, off glass flat water (The Pond) on a borrowed 6m catalyst.
Thats a huge 2.2m difference - Woooooooo ![]()
Actually Woos official response to my inaccuracy querry - included that a 7m feels like a rocket but does not go as high as a bigger12m kite !
Fark yeah - Im taking the 12m out in 40+ knots next time ![]()
This is a douchey thread, jump was mad....love to see some of the keyboard heroes here do it.
if kung fu fury wasn't douchey then using the worst character in the movie as your avatar the hacker certaintly is.
why?
and who said the jump wasn't good? i honestly believe it WAS 26ish meters. i believe this because i trust the woo is more accurate then my depth perception. i have seen many many many times where something is for all conceivable attempts where it should not be (students)
but i radio to the object (students) and they confirm they're position and assure me they are not about to die despite my panicking as it appears to me from the angle i am at that they certainly are. and you know what? no corpses yet. just a strange trick of the eye.
all im saying is the woo can be gamed to produce a higher or lower reading then what it truly is. and that there is better sensors available for next to no cost ready to roll and allways has been for years.

In three posts you've done well with pis*ing on everyone. Good job.
If ever used a variometer, you would know how slow they are.

what?
If ever used a variometer, you would know how slow they are.
slow? what on earth are you talking about? they measure a change in air pressure
" It consists of a simple hardware device that measures the atmospheric pressure 50 times every second, with a resolution that enables the measurement of altitude differences as small as 10 cm. "
wow that is slow someone pour me a mug of molasses while i wait for this vario reading
thats like 200 readings for your 4 second jump theyre pal

count what? how many times you can edit me talking about something? am suppose to be writeing my opinions on this forum or your opinions on this forum?
i honestly think you are an idiot
i believe you are an idiot
i trust in my experience with having to deal with idiots that dealing with you is going to be much the same
my depth in knowledge of idiots has led me to believe you are infact an idiot
i have seen many many many idiots before dbabicwa but you are my favourite
i radio ...idiots?
i am at that they certaintly are.... i dont know i guess it really doesnt make sense if you just start highlighting random words in the bible and looking for clues to why you were born this way but hay

but you do not want us to go somewhere.

Go wherever you like. If it's too much effort to type a dozen letters into a search bar, you can't be that interested.
