Could kite gear be better ? If manufacturers weren't worried about the cost of their gear, could they use materials or products that would improve kite performance and quality, that don't get used simply because they're to expensive, or are we at the peak of product design ?

Some of the racing kites are $4000, and bridels have to be replaced every few months, fabric is super light not sure how durable, you would have to update your quiver every year to stay in the race, so $4000 x 3 + 2000 x 2 for race boards per year.

Kite racing used to be a poor mans sailing....

Now it seems even the kiters have become elitist.

Doesn't help the future of the sport when starting costs are 10k.

I don't see racing as progression anyway... leave that to the wave riders and free stylers.

Now that I really think about it, whats the point of racing? Is there any point to it? Now that the're using foils, you don't even "feel" anything.

Its like making love with a condom. It just doesn't feel right.

Kite racing is an all you can eat buffet, but the same meal for the rest of your life.

I think kites are getting better for most part every year, and we are at the best level they can design.

What sucks is when a kite company brings out a new model that is slightly worse than the previous year, for the sake of having to sell something new. I think it happens less in more recent years. I pretty sure the new North Vegas and Airush Razor are the exact same kite as this years, but with different graphics.

I was talking so some one who got a $4000 race kite and race board +2000

He said it's unbeatable at going in a straight line fast, but how boring is going in a straight line fast after a few hours.

He said it sucked at most everything else, if you head towards the kite it can luff and fold, bridle stretches and has to be replaced every few sessions, cant wave ride or do much else with it. I think in Racing money is no object, and if you want to get into racing $16,000 is a minimum starting price for 3 kites and 2 boards + traveling money for what reward?

In racing, everyone looks like they are on the same kite, if a new model a little faster comes out then the current kites are worth little and you have to pay $12000 for another 3 kites. That does not sound sustainable to me........

YES !!!! I've been trying to convey exactly that sentiment in other forums, and well... ya get the polers on their carbon poles saying "it's the next bext thing, blahblahblah".

BS, it's boring and it's mowing the lawn with a toothpick. So!?

Even the tourists are like - hmmm so? It's not like surfing where the break of the wave is right near the beach and everyone gets to see you do tricks, etc. Kite surfing on a TT comes close to that, but a foil - you need a telescope to see what you're doing.

Who cares what they are doing......I cant see any fun at all in a foil....boring as hell. I would rather watch someone play lawn bowls than foiling.

If money was not object I'd just buy a full range of existing kites. Eg all the different sizes for ozone r1, chrono, edge, catalyst, reo. Then i' probably throw in a set of FS sonics and boosts. Some norths rebels dynos and dices.

That would probably keep me interested for a while.

The fuel is the pinnacle of kite design, provided the wind is roaring.
If it isn't roaring, move to WA. Simple.

Don't tell everyone, I have enough action as it is.

Get back into heavy weather and refute my assertions regarding the financial industry.
Else, see you at LOC for a thorough waterboarding of any ladies we meet...... minus the balloons. Word.

Judging by this topic ..

www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Kitesurfing/Kiteracing/Accessable-kite-foil-racing/

It seems foiling has got a lot of people on the nose. Affordabilty aside, it's like... now what feeling. I would have to go into a shop with $5000 and buy all this foiling gear to go through yet another season or two trying to ride the darn thing?
What a complete waste of money and time.
