I was just thinking if a long bar gives faster turning times (greater lever i guess around a pivot point).

What about bent bars?

Like how sports bikes have handlebars shaped back (if you ride bikes you'll understand) as compared to a motorcross or cruiser bike with straight bars.

It might even make one handed flying easier.

just an idea, let us know what you think paricularly NJPornstar...New

Heck i thought of another idea, what about a straight bar with some kind of device on the depower line or bar that locks the bar at a certain angle for easier cruising?

I dont know if a bent bar would work for unhooked as it would always want to rotate the bar towards the kite. Good to see ya stimulating new ideas out there INfiniDIE.

GO halfway down the the page for the advanced kite bar - its articulated :|

Kind of interesting trawling for this sort of stuff when there is no wind - amazing what some people are coming up with it gives you an appreciation of how kiting got to here!

yeah it would work unhooked except, most ppl riding unhooked want the kite to turn slower not faster.

or, even, more consistent death-loops.

Why not just buy a faster turning kite?

dont have to change the bar, my GK sonic turns faster when i put the trailing edge lines further down the wingtips for easier kiteloops or light wind. or i can move the trailing edge lines further away from the wingtips makeing the kite turn slower witch i use for double backrolls, im not sure if all bow kites have this option but i love my gk sonic

Well thanks for the mostly positive response. I cant be arsed ever actually making any of my designs (i have tonnes of inventions, some professionally engineered some retarded), but sometimes i like to just put ideas in peoples' heads. Maybe one day ill be able to go out and buy a bent bar or something like that cause i recommended it to someone? Its nice to think like that but I doubt it'd ever happen cause of seabreeze.

Oh my god you are some sort of sorceress to have came up with such an Idea, if you weren't a newb then you would realise that North use to have bendy kite bars back on the originals (02-05 i think) until the 06- rhino's and they sucked big time. www.kiteworld.net/north_bar_details.shtml

I would prefer to have a setup where either the kite hardly turns at all or you could lock the steering completely, just whilst you do a trick.

But fast kites are good for other styles of riding.

lol helpy mchelperton.. thats a good one..

but if u want a faster turning kite then just buy one instead of buying a ktie u dont like n having to tinker with it.. and as for the locking position there is no way that could work because ud have to park ur kite in an exact location in the wind window to work in a exact windspeed.. wind drops kite drops wind picks up kite flies up..

and as for spacey i agree.. every1 must of seen the gay bent bars on the old north kites atleast once unless you kite with ur eyes completely shut.

it won't even change anything with regards to turning.

Yeah, sorry boys but it won't make any difference. Given two bars - one straight, one bent, unless the bent one is actually longer (i.e. measured by a straight line from one end to the other), the distance to end of the bar (extended perpendicularly from the centre line) will be the same as a straight bar and so no additional 'leverage' is actually gained.
You need to develop an idea that will contort the shape of the kite more to...i.e. by increase the wing tip length or increasing bar size.

Also, Wipika had a small system on their control bars in 03/04 simlar to the one you want: when the control bar was twisted forwards, small teeth would catch the depower line and the bar would stay there. To release, the bar was twisted back. They got rid of it for obvious reasons.

Back to the drawing board mate!

i know that tieing you lines directly to the end of your bar (how itt is under wakeboard end floats) actually makes your kite turn slightly quicker when compared to the same size bar with end winders attached. i know because mine is set up like this.

dont u get mental chafe from wen u really crank the bar rowdy? i wud think the lines would end up rubbin against ur hand wen u really crank it?

yeah i guess if you give it the old wand it would might hurt your hand a bit, but i just let go if that is gonna happen. the plastic over the top kinda protects u a little.

If you want a faster turing bar use a fixed pulley bar or a crossbow bar on a C kite.
Make sure the pullies don't go any where near sand...

Bent bars are alittle uncomfortable on the wrists especially if its a heavy turning kite.

Hope that helps ya!

As for not having seen the north bars, well some of us couldn't be sold as antiques yet, so that having been said im 20...you're what 107? im guessin seeing as you know more, then you've been alive longer and wayyy more into kites..im not living in the dark, just with the lights dimmed.

yeah i remember those, i think i woulduse one if i could cut it down and just put wakehandle ends on it, but i dont think u could make it any shorter than the 46cm one could u? due to all the pulleys inside an stuff. if i could make it shorter i would get one.

no u wont be able to because of the pulleys inside the bar ends.. y would you want it smaller anyway? i see that thing being subject to intence wear

it would need to be like 13-14 inch or your kite would be insanly fast, i use a 14 inch C loop bar, and i remember when i used pulley bars on slow kites they turned really quick even with a small bar.

They were the non-sheeting ones. No depower, just a trim strap. (bargain price too)

u do realise u can make a pulley bar that suits your style for pretty much nothing out of an old bar. no point buying one, unless u dont have an old bar of course. or its like 20 bucks.
