Hi,
I'm in Cairns for the next 7 weeks and want to kite the barrier reef.

So couple of questions;

1 - Chris at Kiterite is busy tied up teaching, are there other tour companies that run regular day surfaris out there? Or know anyone capabale of putting a tour together?
2- Anyone want to come??? /split the chopper costs?

Two of us keen so far. Very flexible on the dates, have all our own gear and dont need looking after.

Cheers guys, looking for any advice on how I can do it, either through a tour or under my own steam.

Any input appreciated

contact Bretto from windswell he can take you out or
Just jump on hinterland book into Lizard island and kite the blue lagoon- will be cheaper than hiring a chopper.

we used to fly up to lizard quite a lot and the blue lagoon is epic for kiting

Talk to some fisho's around the place who have boats, ask if they have surfboards on board

Also here is a bit of info.

Here is a Cooktown charter boat who can get you to the outer barrier and Ribbon Rfs for an awsome downwinder approx 40 nm from no1 to no10 Ribbon Rf then pick you up and slip across to Lizard Is and Blue Lagoon and then to Eagle Rf for a 3km butter smooth run behind it's sandbank

I'm not an expert on the reef, but I have been out to Lizard and Eagle Islands. I reckon there's no way this charter company will take one kiter on the sort of trip above, not unless you have mega bucks, and even then the risks of doing such huge distances on the outer reef when its windy would make that sort of downwinder suicide without proper support.

Anyway, if you want to get out the reefs talk to Brett Wright from Windswell in Port Douglas, he knows the reef very well and also skippers charter boats.
