I have been flying a 2007 north rebel for the last 3 years and would like to upgrade my kite.
Things I like about the rebel - good wind range, Boosts big, big hangtime,
2 things I really dislike - slow turning and heavy bar pressure.
I am an intermediate level rider that can do back rolls, front rolls, grabs etc.
I would like to start trying unhooked tricks and I mostly ride in the choppy conditions and on rare occassions in the surf. Are there any other rebel riders that have gone on to ride different kites? I am looking at new gear 08/09.

hey mate,
new rebel- fast and lighter bar pressure but still all the old good features!

hit up ur local dealer.

The 2009 EVO is a sick kite too if you wanna go all around kite. This kite will be perfect for starting unhooked!

where in QLD are you?

happy kiting in 2009

I traded both my North Rebels (10m and 14m) in for the North Evo's (10m and 12m) and have never looked back, The only problem is when you boost, be prepared to keep going up, they get some serious air, The Evo's fly faster and further upwind, and have more grunt than the Rebel, - Best idea would be to take several kites for a test run and see for yourself - thats what i did, Anyhow my 2 cents worth

Hi Sharmat,

Definately get a demo of the new Rebel 09, they are quick, light on the bar, responsive, boost huge and are a real no brainer to fly.

A much improved kite. I wasn't even a big fan of the 08 as it was heavy to steer.

Good winds,

Kiteup - are you flying the Evo's 4 line or 5 line? Have you tried both? which is better? How's the 4 line safety?

Can any one comment on how the Evo's go in the surf? or how the 14m evo stacks up against the 14m rebel?

Hi Crazy,

I fly mine with the 4 lines, as it seemed to make no difference with the 5th line on it, as for safety there is no difference if you hit the quick realease they just fall out, for beginners i would recommend that they hook up the 5th line, but for a seasoned kiter there is no real benefit
The Evo's have a better relaunch than the Rebels, In the surf the rebel flew a bit more stable, the Evo is very fast in the surf and is great for getting out of tight spots fast, After having the 14m Rebel and testing the 12m Evo in the same wind I was hooked, The 12m Evo has the grunt of the 14m Rebel, The 12m responds in turns like the 10m Rebel did, The 14m Rebel was great but very slow in turning, I think the next Size Evo up was a 15m, and I'd rather wait for a windy day of 13knots or more than fly a big kite

Sharmat, I am 85kgs, and have never tried the EVO unhooked, When i Boost I am too busy wondering how / where i am going to land, on the down stroke if you want to go back up again just pull down on the bar , Still yet to try it unhooked , have only had theses kites for 2 months before that was same as you a rebel lover plus i haven't had too much time to practice unhooking

Flysurfer Psycho 4, is nice and predictable... good for been unhooked. Fast turning. Very low bar pressure.

Cons: Expensive... but it's German engineering at it's finest.
