So I've decided to build a kicker.
Something similar design wise to this me thinks..http://www.kitescoop.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=655&highlight=kicker+ready
I am chasing some constructive advice from those who have walked this path before.
?What would you do differently in hindsight?
?Design?
?Materials?
?Construction techniques?
?Floating?
?Fixed?
?$$$$?
etc etc etc
Many Thanks
Simon
Hey,
Where abouts are you in Oz?
My two cents.
Material = Galvanized SHS (Weld your frame, for light weight and strength)
Sliding Material = PCV pipes are ok or PCV sheets or strips
Floating = if shellow enough just sit on bottom / if you have to float then FAT SACKS are the go! Although not cheap they can be deflated and transforted easy.
And just anchor with two small boat anchors.
hope this helps..
cheers
Ando
Make it long, then add another meter to the length you first thought...
Don't skimp on materials, pay a bit more to get light weight stuff...
Remember it's called a Kicker - Start it off mellow then give it a kick at the end!!
and most of all, make sure there's at least 4 of you that want to use it - That way you will have help to take it out at the start of the session... And make sure nobody takes off before you take the kicker back in!!!
P-Max, I totally know what you need to do here buddy;
Build it in that shed you erected last weekend, and let me know when your done...
No really, awesome. Can't wait to hit the Stage with a Kicker... Bring it.
hmm
forget the fat sacks cheaper way is waffle pods 9 foam blocks used in construction of concrete you just have to enclose them..
I use ply for the side easy to draw on a curve and jigsaw it out..
just brace and add either your pipe or if you want to go expensive HD polyethylene on top.. you'll need 2 anchors if your floating it or a good bridal system..
hey mate, make sure the angle is way more mellow than you first think. the most common problem i have seen is people making the transistion to steep. I would float your kicker. we have made ours float with the foam sandwhich panels. just go to a refrigeration company, and see what they have in offcuts out the back.
take a slab or 2 with you and you should get some cheap panels
hey you dont even need pvc on the top we used just a sheet of ply and it worked sweet saved heaps of money too fixed to the bottom will give you more kick off it then a floating one kbm vol 8 issue 3 page 10, 11 that was a fixed kicker on the right with just a ply top.
i've neva hit a kicker with only ply on top but wouldn't it make heaps more drag than pvc? i think pvc would be better for your board as well imo.

hey simon
I've helped build a few over the years, We used in this seasons kicker
Builders ply for the top & sides easy to work with & the boards slide over it ok with a bit of silicon spray on them,
Ali frame,
a sheet of foam from an old cool room about 20cm thick,
A set of wheels off an old kids car that was been thrown out,
All this stuff is fairly easy to get (ours gets burnt/smashed fairly often
so this is a good thing)
Ours stands about 110cm out of the water start sits just under the water with a smooth trasition from the water.
Remember build it light, Ours can be moved by 1 person thanks to the wheels.![]()
booga
Its an older vid but check out "Autofocus", should be able to find some good ideas for kickers on that, we made a wicked PVC slider using some idea off the vid only to loose it in the water when we turned our backs to pump up (helps to ensure its in the sand good!!!)
Good luck
This has been disscussed on kitescoop many a time.... im sure if you do a search or post a topic you will get all the plans and advice in the world, from people that have done it before.
