Have a read...awesome!

http://www.coastalwatch.com/surfing/15036/michael-peterson-the-nearly-pro-sailboarder

Reminds me of the simply Super-human feats I have heard about and seen first hand like when Mick Fanning was surfing a LONG overhead wall out from Rainbow Beach at the Superbank, and looked for all money like he wasn't going to make the section (he actually let his body relax upright, like he was standing there waiting for a bus...almost straight-legged) and so I started paddling to be pulled back by my mate saying, "What are you doing about to drop in on that guy...that's Mick Fanning!!!" and no sooner had he said it that Mick started pumping his legs to gain speed and literally speed-warped across this probably 50-metre stretch of un-makeable close-out to approach my friend and I whereby Mick un-ceremoniously power-gouged the lip just ahead of us and I copped the full gallon drum of sea water across the face...ouch!
Interestingly though, what was Super-human was Mick then disappeared down the line and I guess I forgot about him as my mate and I desperately paddled against the sweep to maintain position in the line-up...all of a sudden I heard a loud and a little un-nerving "woop, woop" noise right behind me (only ever heard that from the kick of dolphins one time really close to me surfing at Kingscliff) and I spun around and it was Mick, literally ripping his arms through the water so hard he was making a noise and trust me he was making serious paddling headway against the rip versus everyone else that day simply staying put (even if that to be honest) or succumbing to the ocean and heading in to do the walk/jog back up the point to do it all again.

PS. Mick won the Snapper Quiksilver Pro that year, 2005 (some two weeks after this incident) after his much publicised hamstring tear and surgery rehabilitation through 2004...maybe he figured he'd rest his leg and paddle the length of the Superbank instead!!!???

I have heard from good authority a great Kelly Slater Bingin, Bali story and witnessed a special Ben Wilson, Swimming pools incident this year on Namotu Fiji if anyone interested in me sharing these Super-human tales?
