Because of lot's of demands on some of my videos on HOW TO DO things I decided to do this video in order to help some of my fellow kiters on how to launch and land a kite using a bag as an anchor.

So if you are looking on "How to launch and Land a kite by yourself", then this is one of the ways but this time you are using a bag as an anchor. Good luck and be careful out there.

I've thought about a bag teather before but never tried it. I wonder how much wind it could take before kite and bag start sliding off down the beach?

Why not chuck a carabina on your bag? then you don't need to fluff around with releasing and loading chicken loops.

Side note. I hook the flagout safety up before hooking in and out of the teather. That way if it goes wrong the kite flags out.

Yup, I would always put the flagging line on first as well, both launching and landing. That was a pretty tight launch area with power lines VERY close by. If it was gusty that would be extremely tricky to navigate.

All those power lines right behind the beach...

In this video it was blowing between (14-18 knots). So I did not need to put too much sand inside the bag. But if it was blowing (20 to 30 knots) then I would fill up the bag all the way so it doesn't move at all.

Now the reason I chose this location to launch was because it was on shore and no much beach plus you had some power lines as few people saw. This makes launching and landing very dangerous. But if that is the only beach you have to kite, then you have to be very very careful. This is why you need to make sure that your lines are perfectly set up correctly before you take off.

Another think you could do is take your bag into the water at least 20 meters from the shore where it's still shallow and fill it up with lots of sand so it won't move and then sink it into the bottom. Then do the same thing you see in the video by hooking the bar on the bag and then going to the kite and putting the kite on its side. But all this will be on the water now, in case you want to be far from the power lines.

This is another video that might help you also.

Again guys you have many ways of launching and landing your kite. The best and safest way is to have some one help you. But if you don't have some one and you are by yourself then this is one of the ways.

Hello "Plummet"
We are working on few prototype foil boards as we speak. We should have something for the customers by Feb 2017.

Please Dimitri, put the effort into a real foil and not do the crap Naish Cab, LF thing and short change your customers.
Ps: on the bag anchor, best to pick your spot first fill up bag with sand then drop bag into hole in sand you dug. Plus always connect safety leash first. And first timers should practice this on a more open spot to get the feel of how the kite can drift back as it launches etc.

Carabiner sounds like a great idea, then you can also group together the bag handles so you don't have any single one tearing out.

When I saw the title I thought this was going to be an old school demo of how to launch a two-line by folding over the wingtip!

I barely ever see anyone at the beach use a Carabiner, a good idea, though more realistic to show what people would normaly be able to do with what they rock up with..

As Ral inn says..

Theres a very good foil Marketing opportunity presenting itself to you... remember you designed the Infinity to get more time for kiters on the water - foils will add another 40-50% more kiteing days...

Make it a Weapon - but not an Axe

I used to have a cloth shopping bag and a caribiner tucked away in my kite bag. Packed down real small, but was on the light side for windy days. Haven't used it for a while since I got more confident with self launches.

Agree, were a keen bunch and appreciate a bit of brand/ rider input, imho too many brands promote but don't participate in what we as weekend warriors would like, tbh 90% of kiters are a brands mainstay

Hello "RAL INN" and thank you for your comment. Yes I am working on few custom ones with a good friend of mine who owns MHL. They are based in Puerto Rico.
There is a big difference between the custom ones and the ones that are made by big factories in big production such as the one you just mentioned.

Yes Dimitri there is a big difference and MHL have shown they can span the whole range from crap to excellence. Keep them honest.

"DimitriEpic" i couldn't help but notice that even in your video you had to shake the quick release when releasing it to get it to work.

can you post a video of the quick release actually working without the ball joint catching and sticking?

that would be a sick as video to see bro

maybe get a first time student to do it. because when teaching on epic kites i also had to cough hide and shake the fact that the mechanism i was trying to reassure my students would save theyre lives in the event of an accident simply would not work.

I used a canvas bag sewn up with longish seat beat webbing which held i guess 3 shopping bags full of sand.
I use to bury it in a whole dug but at times that still pulled out with maybe 20kg of buried damp sand so nothing is safe.

Very nice video and I have to say, your input on these forums is surely working magic for your brand Dimitri. So much so I might have to demo some Epic Kites :D

My personal input only is those power lines look very very scary, and very very close.
