Was looking for this video - thanks. I deathlooped my C4 the other day after I inverted it and only one line inverted/wrapped. Was wondering if a similar thing to this guy happened.

Don't worry, all the trash on the beach that those guys are too f***ing lazy to pick up cushioned the fall.

Idiot girl should have sprinted to get that kite under control just in case it took off again, which it did.

More money on lessons and less money on cameras and this would not happen.

Sorry to say but this can happen to anyone on dry land and water, a bar end caught on a spreader bar will show you how a kite loops, unfortunately you don't have much control

This is why people should think about beforehand how a kite functions and visualise what to do in a dodgy situation. If he couldn't unhook the line from the harness why not just grab the 5th instant game over. Or worse comes to worse pull the other back line and let the kite sit on the leading edge and sort your sh1t out. Line wraps around body or bar in the water are dodgy as but this is just pure kooky.

On a serious note, I agree!

This is 2nd or 3rd time this video is debated. I am beginner and have no experience with 5 line kites so ill shoot! Would it help if he just grabbed front lines (or only center line)? This is 5line rebel? Would kite inverted and fly "upside down"? I got wrapped 1 line around the bar when driftlaunching, didn't deploy safety (was low wind) i just pulled centerlines, kite was "disabled".

The less lines u grab the less power the kite will have. When u pulled the centrelines that is the same as a dual front safety system (in my personal opinion these are outdated safety systems). Basically he couldn't pull his safety because the back line was connected around his harness so if u grab the 5th above the bar (or if you are on a 4 line grab a single front line) it will act exactly the same as pulling the safety (he should have gotten up a walked towards the kite it would have been a piece of cake). In this situation the kite would have rolled on its back which is perfectly safe just like how u pump your kite. Another thing to consider is if your kite is looping in one direction like this video clockwise if you position your body to the left rather than straight down wind the kite is going to have a harder time getting off its back and less line tension also helps (don't lie down in the sand). In other words he should have been thinking on his feet (pun intended) rather than with his head in the sand (pun intended) waiting for his kite to start looping. In summary there is mostly a way out of bad situations but you have to think of this stuff before the situation ever occurs these videos are actually quite educational.

That is a good example why anyone who unhooks should attach their leash to the front of the harness, Hadlow is a big advocator of that. Leash wrapped around bar he choose not not release the kite because that would have been ended the competition for him. If that was joe blow at the local they would have probably downed srs.

In an interview I watched he said he had no control?

No one can control a death loop he had to hold on until the kite crashed too sort it out.

ps: You do realise you're hating on 5 line but Aaron was not on a 5 line kite

Natural selection at it's finest, people shouldn't have intervened.

p.s.
In all seriousness though, he had so long to just pull the rear line from under his hook... he even worked out what was wrong, told us about it and then still did sweet FA about it... this is the biggest rook I've ever seen.
I wouldn't be surprised if next time he's stuck in a Rip, diagnoses how a Rip works and then still swims against it until he perishes.
