just having a laugh to myself , the temperatures you guys are talking sounds like a tropical paradise to a pom , aussies dont do cold thats a fact, dont blame you cold weather sucks, -42 with the wind chill is the coldest conditions ive been in in norway, ive just read an article on sebastian copeland pulling himself and 200kg of kit across the the antarctic in average temps of -30 to -40, with winds of 40knts, using an ozone foil as his propulsion and covering over 4000kms in 80 days, it redifines the meaning of cold

I'd ditch the kite (life first),

What? so your 500m out to sea and you ditch your primary floatation device?

weirdo.

self rescue is the safest method if you still have the kite attached kite.

i wear booties gloves hoodie helmet and 4/3 wettie i'd expect to last quite a while before getting too cold. at least as long as a surfer surfing.

4/3 wettie? That says cold right there!
Hoodie Gloves and helmet - geez I must be gettin old. just the thought of that makes the nuts shrink!
Where do you put the extra third of the wettie though?

Mikedoobee has had the most lost boards, lost kites, broken gear and stupid posts I have ever seen in my time on SB. Taking this into account maybe even 10 mins in tropical water is too long. You are 'that guy'...

To be fair theres my view when kiting... it can be pretty cold wind chill in winter particularily in a 30-40 knot southerly thats blowing around the giant iceblock 50km away.

In a nsw you should be able to last for hrs with a 3/2 steamer. If not take up knitting.

To be eligible to swim the English Channel you must complete a 6 hr swim in 16 deg water...
Thats in your own skin...

That should give you some idea of what the body can withstand.

Not for me,I am a pussy.I wouldn't dip my little toe in that water.
