I will be running this events again on Sunday 15th February at Pier Rd StKilda with the support of KBV.
All proceeds will be donated to the Victorian Bushfire Appeal so even if you are not kiting come along and show you support.
Planned events are;
a. Novelty upwind race
b. Red Bull Big Air , and
c. Overall Best Effort [Best Stack]
A BBQ will commence at 12.30pm for all attendees with a gold coin donation to the fire appeal.
Rider/participant briefing will be at 1.00pm along with Registration.
Obviously the events are subject to suitable weather conditions.
Watch the KBV website for updates.
This event is open to all kiting industry and related retailers as a demonstration day. And watch for the kiting Celebrity of the Year [no its not my mate Alex Sanz – unless he decides to turn up please].
I saw Linx practicing for the biggest stack yesterday
Sounds like a good event and a good cause
See you sunday
Good on you Hooky for donating all proceeds to bushfire victims.
I have been at Wallan and Wondong over the last few days interviewing victims, volunteers and emergency services.
They are right for clothes, food and day to day items but the cash will be especially handy when its time to rebuild.
There are thousands of kilometres of fences that are down, hundreds of sheds and homes that need to be rebuilt.
Many farmers who lost their homes didnt have insurance because of the economic problems caused by the drought.
This is the worst thing I have ever seen in this country. It is a humbling experience seeing good people chose donated clothes and taking just what they need so that others dont go without.
Hey Hook grub, may want to consider moving it to Altona, there is easterlies forecast for the comming week...
Wont work to well at St K. (but also may want to wait to see closer to the date)
2 cents ![]()
I also put this up on the MAKO facebook group, so a few of those guys will be along too ![]()
the forcast man is saying its going to be easterly but we will be running the event as planed due to the fund raising side of it we are in the middle of getting a winch with some kickers and sliders so if the wind doesnt happen there is still some fun to be had and plus the bbq will be fired up with kbv's famous burgers and snags with some tunes in the back ground.
But please show your support even by popping in for a minute and saying g'day as the more people we get the better and hopefully raise some funds for those who have lost everything.
A Women's Brunch has been organised by Kite Republic just prior to Hookstock - They must have heard Mr Worm was about with possibly his mate Alex!!
The link for registration/assitance is schools@kiterepublic.com.au
In support of the Victorian Bushfire Appeal fabulous members of KBV have donated gear - 2 kites, a number of lessons from a School etc so far - for auction with all proceeds to go to the Appeal. Keep it coming guys.
Why dont you do it in Altona! more beach for everyone, high tide and it will be south easterly and less gusty. Then you dont have to promote the sport in an area that is under possible closure and in the wrong conditions. You could do a flat out downwind race instead.
Forecast for Sunday
Winds: South to southeasterly 10 to 15 knots tending southerly 15 to 20 knots during the afternoon then tending east to southeasterly 20 to 25 knots during the evening. Seas: 0.5 to 1 metre reaching 1.5 metres in the evening.
Guess we will see what happens
Easterlies at the sludge is gusty as hell, assuming hell is very gusty ![]()
I'll be there along with the missus. Wasn't planning to kite on the day but if there is a comp for biggest stack I may actually be able to be competative ![]()
hey longy your more then welcome to take over and make all the arrangements and organising that goes with it and try to get people to help you run it just to find out it might be south east on the day but knowing st kilda anything could happen, and then at the last minute change everything. By all means go for it but this event is know aimed at helping those who need it most and showing the community that we all would like to help. And what do you do when you move the event and the wind doesnt happen at altona?. Sorry for the negative response but it seems that the people who want to make all suggestions dont actually want to get involed and help.
But i can confirm that there will be a winch set up with a kicker and slider and a wake skate demo, so lets pray we do get wind but if not we can still do our part to help the bush fire appeal.
Good on ya Hook, keep up the good work not only with Hookstock but also all the other KBV stuff including attending Parks Vic meetings to help ensure our sport is well received by the general public etc.
Andrew S
Sorry Hookworm, I thought it was about putting on a comp for kiting and putting in its best light etc. Didn't realize it was for raising money for the fires. I think this is great !
So where is the upwind race being held? How far is it
cheers
the idea i had was to make all taking part line up on the sea wall with kite in bag then after i blast the hooter everyone runs down the beach to set up, as soon as your ready to go you'll raise your hand and a kbv beach patroll guard will launch you. you'll then make your way down wind a little and follow a short course up wind toward the peir where i'll be waiting in an inflatable boat with a flag, and the first to snag the flag wins.
the course will be set out according to conditions and to keep it safe and all compeditors will be expected to kite in a safe manner also.
hey longy didnt mean to be grumpy its just really hard to get these events going and even harder to move them once organised and as much as id love to move it, its just to much work but i'm sure if there's wind in altona in the arvo there's nothing stopping us from running a short course there once we've completed the fund raising and demo side of the event cant promiss but its something we can discuss at the briefing with everyone.
Good work, once again in making this event possible. Great time of year, nice weather, ok location and great advertisement/promotion. I hope all goes well! Might see you down there later on. Laurie ![]()
hook awesome day mate, yeah no real kiting but hey the kiting community got together and all had a yarn and a snag., At least we can do that there are alot worse off than us. Great day good to meet new faces, keep up the good work hook all the effort and time that goes into something like this is massive so appreciate it. Just from a fellow kiter who appreciates ppl like u because quite frankly without ppl like u the sport would struggle and ppl would prob look at us in a diff way. Keep up the good work mate. We all appreciate the work you do. Cheers

A great day was had by all and thanks to the wide range of kiters and friends who supported the effort.
And a special thanks to Heidi for the early start Women's Brunch which was an undoubted success.![]()
