Hi All!

We are coming for a 4 week holiday from 12th March to 9th April and decided to take our kite quiver with us.

We have few days in Sydney. Haven't booked a place to stay yet, but thinking Bondi. We don't expect to get any kite sessions in while in Sydney and were considering storing our gear at the airport, but perhaps we are wrong?

Our next stop is Byron Bay and would hope to kite over there, any recommendations? We will rent a car at the airport so should be mobile.

Then we have 16-17 days to travel from Brisbane to Cairns in a camper and would love to get some kite sessions if wind gods are kind.
I couldn't find much information whether March/April is a windy season or not.
We are leaving Brisbane on 22nd March and heading north in the camper, any recommendations for spots to check out?
Any good sites (apart Windguru Windfinder) to check wind?
Any does and don'ts?

We are confident kiters with years of experience but always respectful of the mature nature and unknown (and known) waters.

Any advice would be great. Not fans of overcrowded beaches but it's more fun to kite with others and to be part of community than hang out if our own.

Thanks!

Kiting is better in Sydney than Byron for the most part as we have flat water and waves. You'll have lots of kiting on your drive up the coast as well. What kite sizes do you have so we can recommend you what to bring? You're already on the best site to check the wind

16 or 17 days to go from Sydney to Cairns, a bloody lot of those days will simply be driving.
You will be behind the wheel for around 30 hours, so 2 hours a day really.
Beware that it is getting difficult to legally camp a van between Byron and the Sunshine Coast without paying some git.

Have fun.

Ok, thanks everyone.

Once again, as there seems to be some misunderstandings:

First we are landing in Sydney and have 5 days there.
So where would you legally and safe kite there? As I said we were considering storing our quiver at the airport. Were not planning on renting a car either.

Then we are flying from Sydney to Byron Bay, and have 5 days there. We will rent car at the airport so we will be mobile.
If there are any beaches to legally kite and any that are banned we would like to know.

Next is trip in the campervan from Brisbane to Cairns over 17 days
(starting on 22nd March, so we are hitting high season around Easter holiday)

Kite Quiver:
We got rid of our big kites, we don't bother going out if our 9 meters aren't enough.
Saying that we both are on a light side and usually take smaller kites than most people.

Ireland being a windy and stormy country we also have 6m each. So we thought about bringing our 9m x 2 and wondering whether take 6 at all, or maybe just one...

Thanks for all the help and info.

P.S. Yeah, we plan to spend about 2 days with full day drive so we can get more rest time in cool places. We are not interested in stopping st every tourist attraction.

Cheers Drury!

So you think we should not leave our kites stored at the airport I take.
Where are your kite spots around Sydney?

We were trying to avoid renting a car as it seems to be parking nightmare... Thought about booking a place in Bondi, but haven't done so yet.

Don't know if you guys kite at Boni, but it looks like a busy beach where things could go wrong easily, so kiting there never even crossed our minds.
Would really love to hear more about kite spots!

What about Manley? Is it a better place? I kinda have that think for living in Bondi lol...

Well, we have only 9m each and 6m each, we always go out on same size so one quiver to share between us doesn't work.

That would be pretty hectic all right, but we have 17 days from Brisbane to Cairns. We are flying from Sydney to Byron Bay first and having 5 days over there before renting campervan and heading North

Lambie, I'm not sure whether there are any trouble with my post displaying correctly but I listed all the places we are travelling to and how much time we have in each or in between. To travel around Australia we would need a year. I wish this was possible, would love to be able to do that!
