I am really behind with technology and looking to get my first ever go pro. Which one is best for kite boarding?

I got a tomtom bandit. Got some great footage but recently had a leak and it killed the unit. Only used 8-10 times mostly water related. Service was great and they replaced at no charge. A mate has the Sony action cam and had a similar experience.
I got the tomtom as not a video editor and they had s imple app to do it. So far I just look at the raw footage as is great to relive the holiday. However not seen them advertised so doubt they are still being promoted.
GoPro going to be around for a while..,girl at work got the 5 and has voice control, handy when attached to a helmet. Si

There not much choice with the brand new hero 5 a it's either the hero or the session.

I hear that in the Hero 4 range the silver is/ was the best value for money with the rear LCD screen that the black did not have.

The LCD is a huge drain on battery though, it's pretty much useless unless you're doing handheld shots and want to review them right away. For a sport like kiteboarding there isn't really a point to having it.

For choosing between the new cameras just look at the specs. Do you need to shoot 4k video? Do you need to shoot really high FPS?

I've had the GoPro HD+ which has an LCD back as well. I've used it many times out there and found it worked very well. Battery lasts 2-3hours tops, which is fine for my needs, and is fully waterproof to 30metres. I've not had to 'turn off' the LCD, but I imagine it would extend the battery time longer. The only downside, the battery is internal and cannot be removed, neither can the camera. Everything is housed as one unit, including the water proof case.
