Pulled my inserts yesterday.
I'm shattered as I love this board and I really can't afford a new board for at least 8weeks.
Everything can be fixed, within reason..... But I've not had much experience with this sorta DIY.
Can anybody give me some good instructions on how to fix. See pics.
If I can get another 3 months out of it then I'm happy, and I don't care if it looks ugly, but I want to fix it properly.
The block insert was ripped straight out, and upon exiting has left a long split in the glass along the other inserts.
As an inexperienced board repairer.....
I was thinking-
Remove broken and splintered pieces around insert.
- use WestMarine epoxy to set the pulled block insert into place
- then a small strip of carbon fibre over all the inserts.
- then a full re-glass of the top layer.
But I honestly have no idea.
My buddy reckons to cut out a small section around all the inserts, and then use a stainless steel plate to reinforce it.
- then glass over the lot.
But I dunno?
Can anybody with experience help me out please.
I really don't wanna lose the rest of my season!
Cheers
Clean it up a bit. Drill out the hole(s) you want. Epoxy to seal it all. Get a good thick washer and thread it. Bolt your binding on. Grind off excess bolt. Go kiting.
I am not an experienced board repairer.
Epoxy for the repair of the broken one to seal it and use the other inserts next to it, maybe use the second.
Should buy you some time....
got the dremmel out this arvo.-cut the glass in a big rectangle around the inserts approx 1.5"-peeled off all the glass inside the rectangle- used a cone head on the dremmel to clean out all the loose and broken bits.- the other inserts still have heaps of bite and havnt lost integrity. it looked really bad, but it was only the glass that cracked, no wood core damage except the pulled insert.- tonight its sitting in the shed and will leave it to dry and make sure the core isnt damp before i resin the gap from pulled insert....... its also a chance the fix a few dings around the rails which ive been meaning to do for a few weeks.-tomorrows plan is to glass in the old insert, and fill with resin.
- once dry i will sand it & clean it.- then 2 layers of glass over the inserts.-and will consider doing a re-glass on the entire top just to be sure.if that will give me 2 months until i can be financially irresponsible and buy a new board..... then im happy!!
