Hi guys, I just bought a Naish Torch with a shift 5 line bar. it is a 2012 model and it looks like the lines length are wrong.
When I stretch all 5 lines from the same point, the center lines are about 20cm longer than the side lines, is that normal?
Does anybody know the correct length of all lines or the difference between the side lines and center lines?
Thanks guys,
Joe
I had one of those kites once. I can't remember the cure for the problem if indeed it is a problem.
Maybe the best thing to do is to make some pigtails of different sizes and have them ready to experiment with on either the back or front lines when you have enough wind to fly the kite properly on the beach. Trial and error should see you right.

hmmmm maybe that's why he sold it might of thought the kite was crap but just didnt adjust the lines, if it came with a manual the manual should say otherwise ask your local dealer/shop or refer to north website for optimal trim settings
Hey Joe,
With the Shift bar (actually Naish Bars) the lines should be all be set equal when the bar is fully powered (i.e. unhooked with no depower pulled on). If your lines are out by 20cm then there is something wrong, check that the adjuster strap is fully released/powered. There in adjustment for the back lines under the floater (foam) on the back lines. The bar usually comes with the back lines on the middle setting as standard, and there is a longer and shorter setting either side. Is this a new kite or a second hand one? Check through these and see if anything stands out. Feel free to msg me if you wish to discuss in detail, or take your bar back into your dealer as if you purchased from them, I am sure they will help you tune your bar correctly and safely.
Good luck,
Safe kiting.

JB

Thanks JB for your advise!
This is a second hand kite. I had just one go until now and it flew really terrible! I'll definitely give a try on the tips you gave and if still looks bad I'll take to my friends from Kite Addiction!
Regards
Joe
Joe,
Being 2nd Hand the front lines may have stretched a bit also (this is normal, especially if the kite was owned by a heavier rider), You should be able to adjust enough to compensate though.
Good luck,
JB
