so have we established what the 'rules' or 'etiquette' are regarding D/Wers thru the red zones when there is literally NO-ONE in the water? -obviously when there's ppl it goes without saying. but i'll bet there'll be many occasions this summer when kiters r cruising D/W and there's not a soul enjoying a tranquil swim in 30kn on-shores?
Safe and harmonious kiting. Keeping our piece of heaven.
So personally, I don't see the prob when the red zones are such a small percentage of the available coastline. I stay out of them regardless. We are 'being watched' in a sense, being a new, rapidly growing sport with an 'extreme' tag.
Same goes for staying away from fishos, swimmers, body boarders, surfers, dogs, etc.
And guess what? I'm still as stoked and as tired at the end of my session! I don't end thinking, man if only I'd had those 5 extra carves.....![]()

Thank you!
Dear big wave dreamer
- please don't assume everything ocean-side belongs to those on a surfboard being towed thru the surf zone by a kite (as opposed to surfing the wave).
I'm sure we can all find a little bit of joy on the coast without yet another us vs them situation of TT vs SB.[}:)]![]()

IMO there is no justification to a SB having any more cred or ROW in mushy onshore slop. These are blobs of mush vaguely resembling waves and almost impossible to say where the wave begins and ends.
If you are 1st into the breaking zone - regardless of the craft - then go for it and expect a reasonable distance from surrounding craft.
Yes - I ride a twinny (but don't cut anyone's grass) and if I am in the zone 1st with ROW have equal right to the zone.
Twin-tips take differant lines and approaches to the breaking waves and it pays to keep that in mind. Certainly I keep in mind the most likely trajectory of the SB tow-ins north and south of me when i'm approaching the zone.
Equal respect = equal fun.

Totally agree on these BTW
The lonely voice of reason..
Thanks funky but I think we've moved on to cups now....

Not Cool.![]()
Floreat SLSC have reported that a kiter had gone into the flagged area and then lost his board. He was spoken to by the patrol member.
It is 1 incident that they've highlighted - we've had a major event go through (Red Kite fundraiser) with no problems and countless other kiters doing the right thing - but it is still not cool.
Could everyone who kites in the area please keep an eye out for 'information deficient' kiters and have a chat to them about the Guidelines (See first page of this thread please, if you haven't read it yet).
Many thanks,
