Its clear... the biggest kiting event entries pools are for long distance open format races.
All equipment allowed, minimum levels of experienced, pros vs amateurs.

# Australia - L2L 19km : 110k Kiters and could be more
http://www.redbull.com.au/cs/Satellite/en_AU/Video/Lighthouse-to-Leighton-021242943019620

# Australia LOC "26km?" not sure how many kiters

# Germany/Denmark C2C 40km : 300 kiters

# France - Defi Kite Race 40km : 250 kiters and they will look to include more

I'm sure there are other example but searching google seems most french kiting events also include a distance race.

Now the question being; with the obvious popularity, why are there not more such races? And a formal class created locally or internationally to develop and promote such events.

Why are there not more of these events? They are mostly run by volunteers with corporate sponsors coming in at the end and plastering their brand all over it. The effort required by the volunteer organisers is massive and is usually underestimated.

Agreed 100%. Its a challenge in itself just to understand what is required to put on an event. You can pretty research anything on the net, but very little info is put out about what it takes to pull an event together, somebody like Tim's team, or the Sail events would pretty much have a chek they work through each year, fair enough this is their very hard IP and its theirs to keep.

Its easier to know what the effort is if if you have a line of sight on the actual challenge of putting an event on. This is where a central point would be great to help support with actions plans etc.

Got my goolies vibrating.
Reckon this has to be done.
I will offer up a sweep boat & sign on as sweep myself.
No problem at all for me. I'd probably come last in any case. :-(
Lets do it.

There are some great surf breaks between them two locations.

Baked Beans
Fence Lines
Ranches
Headbutts
Flatrocks
Greenough
Africian Reef

Keep in mind if you go down near Lucys and end up on them rocks

You are going to have a bad time.

I'm behind even word I say, did the run last season bit lonely on my own but were some killer spots, loved seeing the lighthouse at the end of it! Did consider carrying on too coro but feet were getting sore from footpad rub and when I talk about slaying dragons it's no metaphors !
