Does eveyone who has used a gopro on a surfboard use only the white surfboard mount or have you tried a standard size mount?

Is a standard type mount strong enough to use (with a safety leash to front strap) or should I definitely use the white big patch?

Cheers,
EB

I use a normal flat mount on my snowboard and that has handled quite a few knocks without coming off, but I wouldn't trust it on a surfboard. It isn't so much getting a knock, but the force of the wave when you have a wipeout that will just rip it off. I have the surf mount for my surfboard. Don't risk it.

With the hd hero2 the surfboard mount is about half of the size as the old mount. Have a look for the newer surfboard mount, it is alot better visually than the larger mount

I had a surfboard leash plug put in the nose of my board by a local shaper to attach the lanyard to, as well as the FCS plug for the mount that came with the gopro. Pretty solid, cost about $40

Get the float. And tie it to something if possible. Never had a drama with mine

You definitely should have a backup with a lanyard as I have experienced the clip cracking if you get smashed. So you may as well use the surf mount rather than 2 standard mounts.

Don't make the mistake I made and use a taller head mount clip (that allows greater rotation of the camera). It doesn't take the rubber stopper (white u-shaped piece), which IS required to prevent the clip popping off if knocked. HARD LESSON
Now I also use a float just in case.

I used the black standard mounts on my tt and it broke off. Broke the clip and the mount. I had the camera leashed so it was saved.
i use the white board mount now and it has held up. Thought e camera keeps getting pushed by the water and ends up face down on the board :(

I find that by using the screrwdriver, i can tighten the thumbscrew up so it doesnt move as much when hit by a wave
