Yep
My black rubbery stuff on my slingshot bar is splitting and peeling off
Any wisdom on the correct glue to get from bunnings to fix this?
Aluminium bar. Foamy rubbery stuff. 4 years old
Thanks
Shelley's quick grip.
Apply to both surfaces and wait until nearly dry. Then stick together. Have done it on my bar and works well. Just make sure both surfaces are clean and covered well with the glue.
I've had good results from contact adhesive. As already said, clean surfaces and I wrap the glued area with tape after, to ensure a good job.
Constant moisture will make the contact adhesive break down over time. Try black Sikaflex, I have used it before and it works well. It is used extensively in the boating industry and does stand the test of time. Also being black, if it oozes out anywhere it won't be noticeable ![]()

What sort of time frame does it take to breakdown?

My experiences: I have repaired two Cab bars, both under two years old and it looked to me like they had used contact adhesive from the factory. If you used contact adhesive again to repair it you may get another two years out of it which is not bad, and ur probably not gonna keep ur gear for four years. Just saying, I have used Sikaflex for my repairs as I have had experience with both products in the marine and cabinetmaking industries and my preference in this instance would be Sikaflex.
I should also mention that excessive heat will also cause contact adhesive to break down.
Cheers for the info.
I'm a year into my cab bar fix, so I've got a little time before needing the black stuff.
Woah
So many sikaflexes to choose from
You got a part no for the one you like to use??
And is silicone the same ? cause I already got lots of that
STORMSURE
tryed most other glues and that is the one that holds up
need to leave it over night. use baking paper and string to bind it while drying
You can also buy glue on Ebay called E6000 it's like shoe goo but thinner and much cheaper . It comes in a tube , super strong for all repairs on gear wetsuits , bars etc
