Hey guys,

Two seasons in and its time to prepare for round three. Should probably know a lot of this already but...

Maybe you can give me advice on:

1. I want to get into wave riding a bit more so would it be a good idea to get a short set of lines for the waves and a long set for nice lofty jumps?

2. My lines are three seasons old. Is it insane that I am still using them?

3. I have one kite, a 9m, is it worth buying a 7 and an 11 or should one be enough most of the time? Also do the newer kites have a bigger wind window??

Live in Perth by the way. Thanks for any help you can give.

Cheers

1. No use the same line length it wont matter much, unless you want to get super picky at doing certain tricks. Just concentrate on your wave riding for now.

2. lines will last ages as long as you look after them, check them for any signs of damage, a little nick in the line will mean it could snap when jumping so watch out.

3. I would say you'd be right with the 9m (but thats a guess cuz i know nothing about you.)

Just try whatever man. You'll know if you'll like it or not. You can't really make a mistake as such. Its all fun. You won't really know what's best for you until you give it all a go.

Cheers Smegd,

Good advice. Reckon I will just demo a load of gear a the start of the season and pick up a new 9m and a second hand surf board.

Do you think it is overkill to have a 7 and an 11 for those strong and light wind days? On top of a 9m that is.

Hey Pat01,

I am 90kg and I use a 9m and 20knots above I use a 7m and I am no pro - coming onto my 4th season I think. 9m mostly on 20m lines and 7m 24m lines.

I think also if you are going strapped you would most likely need a bit more power as the strap for the back foot is fairly far back and will cause you to bog a bit.

Also one thing I noticed especially with new guys on a surfboard is they put too much weight on the back foot, fine on a TT but not a SB, all the bouyancy/plaining area is in the middle of the board. Put alot more on the front.

I have not used my TT in 2+ seasons.

Like Smedg said, Just go for it!

Good luck, you'll love it.
