Welcome PhilG

I had a kiting holiday in the wonderful west 2 years ago. Fantastic. If you want hard core kiting go north of Perth. If you want to keep the family happy go south. The west ausies may know better than me though. It depends on how much driving you are prepared to do. It is a BIG place.

TRY www.hugedomains.com/domain_profile.cfm?d=waksa&e=com , although that is primarily for Perth kite locations.

also try www.esperance-kiters.com.au/?L=ogm.index for the south east of w.a. beach locations. you will want to be into the kite surfing to come down here as we have very little flat water conditions. if your keen on a round trip head first north for several weeks then south. wind here (esperance) isn't really on until December anyhow. most of us ride 9 and 12 meter kites

North is hot especially by December 33 degrees plus most days , south is cooler 26 to 33.

Enjoy the trip.

Head North, though swell and waves are perhaps not the greatest however you might luck out.
The only thing is its hot and not a lot of structured activities for kids n Wives. But i guess if your child is 2yo beach is as good as anywhere. Plus up North the wildlife is awesome, kids love that.

If it were me i would rent a 4x4 Camper so something like these http://www.travelcar.com.au/4wd then you can really explore.

Once you have got over the heat, dust and flies you can head to the nearest town for a shower etc and feel ready to take it on again. There are also heaps and heaps of free camp sites up and down the coast. Make sure you have water and if you are running low on petrol stop to fill up.....don't chance it.

On arrival maybe head to Exmouth then work your way back from there. All along the west coast from Exmouth to Perth (some 2000kms) is kiteable with flat water and waves. Most spots it will be you and only you.
So some well known spots to investigate Exmouth, Gnaraloo, Coranation, Geraldton, Lancelin, Cervantes. There are heaps n heaps n heaps more, so check google earth.

WA distances are overwhelming so if your time is limited make sure you plan properly.
Have fun and post some pics here when you are done.
