Kiting said...
+1 for Protec ace, use mine for wakeboarding, really comfy and way ahead of a Gath helment in respect to protection. I was always of the understanding that Gath helmets were more focussed toward protection from fin cuts etc, as they are useless for protection against impact.
Havent felt the need for using one kiting yet, although I can definetly see the motivation behind them, especially for guys in there first couple of years of kiting.
From Gath website:-
Gath Gedi
EN 1385 Approved (350-410 grams)
Combines higher levels of impact protection with close fitting comfort and low drag performance. The Gath Gedi is fully convertible with removable ear protectors, visors and peaks and can be customised for a perfect fit to any head shape with Gaths unique Comfort Strip Fitting System.
According to my limited access to the Standard online - a helmet complying to the standard is suitable for use in Class 1 to 4 rivers.
A class 4 river is:
Long rapids; waves high, irregular; dangerous rocks; boiling eddies; best passages difficult to scout; scouting mandatory first time; powerful and precise maneuvering required. Demands expert boatman and excellent boat and good quality equipment.
