Hi all
just got back from 6 months kiting in hawaii, cabarette, brazil, israel, egypt and greek islands... was tons of fun... I reccommend it for next winter for anyone, especialy hawaii if you like wind thats mostly 25-35 knots... maui is more often than not 30 knots and gusty..so no unhooking if thats your thing
now I would like to buy a GPS watch so that I can see how far I am kiting, how far out, speeds reached etc....
I know such a thing exists but have no idea where to buy from or how much they cost?
Anyone own one/ have any useful information??
looking forward to getting back to pinaroo, scabs and pelis this week!

They make a range of GPS watches, they also make dive computers and all that stuff. They have been doing it for a while and make pretty slick stuff. I work in a shop that sells them but to be honest they are way cheaper off ebay.
I've used them a couple of times before and they take time to learn and get used to. Know a few blokes with them if you want to check them out.
Send me a message if you need any more info about them.
I have Garmin Forerunner 201. It was pretty cheap. Cost 3 years ago 140 dollars in USA.
Haven't used it in kiting. Bought it cause I was running marathons. I saw one bloke in Point Walther using it and he seemed pleased with it.
It shows distance very accurately. Speed isn't that accurate. I quess that model updates the info once per 3 secs. More expensive ones probably do that more often.
Try posting you Q in the Windsurfing GPS Forum

The GPS Kitesurfing guys actually recommend against the forerunner and foretrex as they started using them and found out the straps break with high speed wipeouts.
The alternatives are using standard GPS units in a aquapak or something like the navman M300 which is a water specific unit.
hey I have a suunto sailing watch, with gps, I used it a bit when I was sailing overseas, but has lived in my cupboard for the past couple of years. If you want to buy one, let me know if you'd be interested in it, and how much you want to spend.
