Hi,
I am new to the sport and in the process of purchasing all the gear after i have had some lessons and done some good research but i was curious if anyone has managed to log any GPS data information from the board while kiting.
I come from a sailing background so i would be interested to see speed direction and angles after a kite boarding session. Preferably overlayed on google earth or similar.
I use a Garmin Edge 500 for cycling which is great but dont think it would take the abuse from kiteboarding. Another option is a velocitek speek puck but they are pretty large...
If this has been discussed already could you please direct me appropriately?
Cheers

PS - this is my first post so please initiate me properly...![]()
Hi PJ,
The kiters are bunch of girls who are only concerned with Iphone apps when it comes to tracking your kiting.
The windsurfers are a bunch of dorky old men who are massively agitated by tenths of a knot up or down for a given windspeed year to year.
Use Runkeeper or similar and a waterproof pouch for the Iphone/android or a $250 waterproof gps for the latter.
The obsessed windsurfers hangout in forums,windsurfing,gps/speed sailing.
Under the "help" tab is a search button that will bring up a stack of past threads.
Thank you for the posts
I think i will try the garmin edge 500 in a waterproof bag tucked away somewhere.
Looking forward to getting out soon. Hopefully Santa is feeling generous this Christmas!!

If you think you're going to get all obsessive about GPS readings, then please do yourself a favour and forget the garmin -- the doodad to have is a Navi GT-31.

This will let you post to www.gps-kitesurfing.com/ without people getting aggro at you... and GT-31's are cheaper than garmins as well ![]()

Nice post, thanks....clearly a whole other community exists out there...potential chest beaters?
I am only really interested in cool GPS squiggles over maps, with the odd stat thrown in but will look into the GT-31's for sure.
