Another example of funding avaible for clubs.... even kite clubs, each state would have a different version of something similar.

This one is given out several times a year here in WA
www.dlgsc.wa.gov.au/sport-and-recreation

There is also large grant available that will cover up to 50% of large purchases like support boats.

Lack of clubs means kiting in AUS is missing out on heaps of funding opportunities that could be directly support local kiting groups.

As clubs you could be reaching out for funding regional events.

See WA Tourism, they dead keen to fund more regional events, again this is similar in many states.
How sweet would 20 or 50k be to help put on an epic kite festival, or event in a sweet regional place .... its possible!! Approach them as a club, they keen on more events. www.tourism.wa.gov.au/events/Event-sponsorship/Pages/Regional-Events-Scheme.aspx

Get onto it guys!!!

To do it right, takes around 6 months to get club and ready for a season. Waiting till start of season would be too late.

YWA are keen for more juniros to learn kiting, they already have the tackers programe for dingy sailing an put around 600-800 kids a year through that each summer. There are aslo a number of junior sailing camps kiting could be added to, we putting together a programme for racing but kids would needs to learn kite basics first so they could go to waves, racing or freestyle once they know how to kite.

Insurance is super easy once you a club, just affliate with KA and you covered. And affiliate with local sailing association and you good to run events with approvals being done through a standard long standing process. Both require making sure club is legit and does things right, jump through lot of hoops. They don't just hand these out, you need to prove why you should get it and you can cover all the bases, risk management, event management etc.

We ran the numbers on turning a Facebook group into a formal club so that we could hold proper events, ride days etc.

Essentially just to break even we'd have to charge members $20 per event just to kite at the same spot they can kite at fir free on their own.

Australia has gone too far with its red tape and suing. Council permits, 3rd party liability insurances, qualified first aiders, life guards, rescue boats etc.

Then there's all the other ATO crap you have to do for registering a club, setting up directors, protecting assets.

It's not for the faint hearted.

I ran a soccer training program, every weekend during the winter, I had approx 60 kids on each morning session, I purchased all the gear myself , cones, goals, poles, bibs, balls etc etc, all until one of the parents asked if I was insured, pretty sad IMHO , but why I asked the question, still keen to get something happening on getting the local kids into it, I've given a dew local kids lessons and get a great deal of satisfaction watching them progress, it's the equipment cost which is the killer or so being told

As they say, If you looking for reasons to not make to make the effort, that's easy and it not hard to find them!

Its a fair bit of work, but worth while, and is done by every other sport.

Council permits; FYI as a club this gets done differently. Sailing clubs dont ask for permits, they get them done though your local YA.
Support boat/first aid etc; if something happens, how would you deal with this? just wing it??
You dont need life guards, just first aiders
3rd party insurance for events; if something happens and you personally get sued, can you afford to pay them their wage for the rest of their life? KA insurance for clubs covers this so what is the issue? why would you not want to protect yourself and the people that are volunteering at your event?
ATO .... unless you planning on doing over 75k a year through the books, just run it like a school yard tuck shop, keep some basic books and you dont even need a yearly audit.

The websites for clubs, even help do most of the house keeping, memberships, events regos etc, meetings, finances.
checkout Tidyclubs or if you affiliating with YA as well they they have fox sport their new system. these both cost under 250/year for the whole thing.

Check out our one www.pkr.club

Red tape is there for good reason, so that wing nuts dont put people at risk.

Charging people to join a club and attend events is common to every sport, there is no such thing as a free lunch.
If a kiters don't want to join a club, or join an event. That is their choice. But if they do want to, its fair that they would be charged a fee. At least give them that choice too.... and let them make up their own mind.

That is awesome Cauncy, great effort mate!! shoot me a pm

There is so much assistance available for clubs especially if they helping juniors.
Every council has means to assist and support clubs.
The Gov dept for sport and rec has means to help these clubs.
Corproate Sponsors will help clubs, as they know its non for profit.
Clubs can raise funds as well... raffles, bunning sausage sizzles etc.

We not reinventing the wheel here, we just now doing what is done by every other sport, finally :)
