Hey Guys
Going to a conference at Fraser Island next week. Will it be worth while taking my kites along this time of year. What wind direction, strenght, conditions should I expect? Are there any spots that are recommended?
Thankks

I have been kiting for 6years or so now.
I kite pretty hairy spots sometimes (bars/ big surf /around headlands )etc.

I've been camping and visiting Fraser area for 35 years.

I would not kite anywhwere past inskip point if you paid me!
Every trip I see sharks - every trip....

Up to you but there is miles of beach if you're game.

3/4 of he way up fraser is a place called waddy point and is perfect in a NE. Rest of fraser is basically only good in a SE but being an island i would say you could kite anywhere on it in any wind.
And yes you do get sharks there just like the rest of the ocean its just you can clearly see them from indian head but i hope they have plenty of other fish to eat than some boney human.

Have to disagree with you. I reckon Kurt is on the money. More Sharks at Fraser than anywhere I've ever kited for sure.

Anyone else met Mystique? She is the work of some serious bull shark school.

Sharks of all kinds in abundance at Fraser is my experience.

Maybe, just don't fall off. That would have to make you safer for sure.

I got back from a fraser trip yesterday and stayed at Orchard beach which is just past waddy. I do at least 4 trips up there every year and honestly couldn't be rooted taking my kite gear. There are so many other places that are safer and less remote than the island. As stated before Fraser is a different ball game as it is harsher and wilder than anywhere else on the east coast. Have a look at the island on a map and you can see why it's got so much wildlife like sharks and whales etc, your further out into the open ocean than you realise. Chances are the pommy tourists won't be much help if you get into trouble.

Last week we saw sharks every day, sometimes only meters from where we were standing with bleeding kill bags full of taylor and the whales were within casting distance of the waddy point rocks most days. In saying this on another trip I did at easter there were a few guys having a grovel further down near Eurong and happy valley but it wasn't really blowing hard enough. Despite all the above the report is for light wind all week anyway.
good luck.

Kiting would be ok at Fraser as long as knew for sure you wouldn't fall off. I've seen sharks there while walking along the beach (small ones). and standing on the headland (pretty decent sized ones). I would never surf there, ever. I know sharks rarely eat people, but when you can clearly see them...it just seems a bit silly?
