The past weekend, a few kiters have been approached by the Lifeguards / Beach inspector and told that

-- there has been some complaints by parents about kiting in front of Floreat beach too close to the flags / beach

-- requested that we stay around the back of the white boys -- 200m when down winding. - not all of Floreat beach, just the section between the buoys.

200m sounds quite far, but I guess the point is stay well away from the beach and the buoys.

The beach inspector was very friendly and doing his job -- even gave a few kiters a lift back up to city beach and launched a few kites whilst asking us to stay clear.

I thought it be a good time just to be reminded - particularly as there has been "formal" complaints and the beach inspector will be forced to act --- or even worse, the council...

FYI...

i know where you mean it is the section about 300m north of floreat groyne. it usually directly in front of the floreat surfclub there, they always have flags there. cheers for letting everyone know. we all love that downwind run and we would be spewing if we missed out on them. it should just be common sense aswell for all flagged areas. 200m is abit far though.

The inspector is a great guy. He kites also. I think it could come in handy having a kiter in the beach authority system.
Good on him. He was very friendly about it, and we dont want such a fun spot banned.
There is a bright yellow bouy 200m out. Just wizz around that and its all good.
I recon if people are going between the flags near the shore , their kite and board should be taken for 12months or more, i dont want to be banned for someones elses stupidity/mistake.

Ahhh - thought so. Seems a nice bloke, always waits if you are about to launch/land before driving past and gives a wave.

I'm glad this post has been raised (missed it at 1st).

I posted a similar thread last year wondering why folks on downwinders had to kite through this measly 100m stretch when there is 500m before and 3kms of punter/kiddy free beach beyond. Funny enough half of the replies slagged me off?? WTF??

Just as bad/stupid is those trying to stay upwind who kite through the zone then walk their kite back through the flagged area with kite/lines super low (30 degrees) over the beach!!! Due to the raised beach sand a serious accident is waiting to happen when a squid gets curious and grabs a temptingly low line!?! Not to mention a luff/gust and "Oh look granny's head is off and making a real mess"!! Why not swing the kite over the water at more 45 degrees instead??? It's only for 50-100m not real hard - just courtious and safer. Much better vibe allround and no stress from rightly concerned parents.

Selfish, stupid and maybe eventually banned - not cool. [}:)]

You do not want to tangle with this council - they are not fun, accepting or accomadating.
