Hi, anyone know a location in Fiji that has great wind, shallow beaches and a place for the kids to enjoy themselves (supervised)? I've been lookiing at Plantation Island (www.plantationisland.com/) on Malolo LaiLai, part of the Mamanuca Group of islands. Other suggestions vwelcome.

Hey Steve I have been going through this same issue for the past 3 months and we have decided on Bali - which does dissapoint me a little - we really wanted Fiji or any of the other south pacific islands - Akutiki and Samoa - especially Samoa were looking really good - but they all turned out either too expensive ($12k for 7 nights!!) or certain resorts wouldnt allow kids.
If you have any success please let me know - Castaway Island Fiji was the closest to what we wanted in the end, but then the government there went even more pear shaped than it already is!!

Either Castaway or Plantation Islands if you are taking the kids would be the best bet. Both have a supervised Kids club... at least they did when I was last there....
Without the kids Nagigia Is Resort ( just off Kadavu ) is the best in my book..http://www.fijisurf.com/
I would not be overly concerned regarding the political situation particularly if you are intending to be out on the islands as opposed to being in Suva etc....... The people themselves have no beef with tourists.
BAli ok but not great for kiting unless you like big kites
then again when Fiji has political problems, three people go to bed with headaches and 1 dog gets kicked in the ass.....not really that dangerous(unless you suffer from migraines) but Vanuatu looks a better option....maybe?

Go anywhere and just handcuff the kids to a palm tree somewhere, most of these small islands don't have child protection laws so you're safe, if anyone asks, tell them you're punishing them for something random. Just make sure its not low tide because the tide can get high at some of these places.
