i broke one side fin today, then 10 mins later my board ended up being a single fin.
so does anyone else have a problem with their FCS fins.
mine keep braking where the fin attaches to the plug, those little tab things.
currently i am using M3's, would a carbon or other material type fin be better than those plastic ones.

or maybe i just need to stop doing occy power turns. lol.

snapped a few myself but only doing limp wristed dogman turns

i think they are set to snap so you dont bust the plugs out

i think mine broke from countless times of riding in and scrapping the sand as well as the board getting smashed in the shorey after getting nailed myself

try the alloy ones they make for tow in surfin

FCS fins are notorious for snapping easily. Future Fins are heaps better than FCS.

If you are ripping out the fin plugs regularly, you can learn to repair your own FCS plugs with replacements, available at Dion Chemicals in Brookvale, NSW. They also sell FCS replacement fins for $10 a pop that are quite good, (as opposed to about $120 a set at the surf shops)

Send me a PM if you want the FCS PDF installation guide --just be warned, it's 25+ pages and requires a few pieces of specialised hardware and tools to do it properly.

I've got the same problem. All my boards are now asymetrical twin fins, missing the left side fin.

I'm sure it is a design problem with FCS fins

Just cause my fave spot is littered with rocks that I keep hitting. well it doesn't stop me replacing the fin and going back for more so it can't be too bad!

anyway surfingboye, unless like me you have an insatiable attraction to the reef, or your hitting other solid objects like other water users, the bottom, or even impacting the fins yourself during wipeouts, the tabs shouldn't break.
Maybe a dodgy batch of fins or your board is suffering damage your unaware of? maybe in travel or storage?
During impact the tabs are designed to snap to avoid having your plug system ripped out or smashed through the deck of your board. Given the speed and drive generated whilst riding with a kite even the tab system sometimes fails to avoid this type of damage. I have recently suffered both losing the plug and having the plug pushed through my deck. Both were my fault and the result of hitting reef at speed. Much easier to just replace the fin than to spend time reparing. I know it won't be the last time though.
Been using the FCS and other fin systems for years surfing and kiting, and havn't come across fin failure without reason yet. I may however just be lucky.
