Hi Forums. New here. Name is Josh.
I live in the Bundaberg area, about 15 minutes from Elliott Heads (QLD), which I'm told is one of the better locations to Kite Surf. Living so close to such a favoured area I really want to learn and get into the sport, but there's not a single operating instructor in the entire area.
I've noticed big gatherings of Kite Surfers to Elliot Heads at certain times of the year. Would this be a good place to just show up and ask for some help? Keep in mind I've never spent a second on the wind or on a board - about the closest I've come to this stuff is most of my childhood on a skateboard. If I show up and start poking around will I be annoying people who are just there to enjoy their sport? I really want to get into this sport but short of teaching myself (which I keep reading is a stupid thing to do) I'm all out of options.
Alternately, is anyone in the Bundy/Wide Bay area willing to teach me? I'll pay for the lessons of course.
lessons available from 1770, much closer and better conditions, and may even meet you half way if conditions are right.
A couple of lessons should have you skilled enough to learn kiting safely, and 14 days of kiting should see you as a competent kiter.
Our area has some top spots to play
will be down that way soon as well

Ps I have a Peter Lynn pepper 3.5 2007 for sale
Worn but can teach you to handle being pulled around
Or to let go
Cracked a couple ribs on it running sand dunes a few weeks in
Learnt to let go :)
Inflatables are so much safer if you can control the kite
Only if you want to end up in emergency, think of it this way if ya never ridden a super bike before would you go buy one and hop on it without any experience riding bikes.
Best advice you tube videos of how to's with at least 2-3 lessons a must if ya have a kiter friend maybe otherwise only qualified instructors , most kiters won't help due to legal issues that can arise from you ending up a para or dead.
Not sure if above information is correct . Enzo I think has closed his kite surf school down worth a phone call first . There is no one else here in the bay . But YES get lessons first .Make a week end of it and go to adventure sports in noosa and see George if enzo isn't working . $200 a lesson and has most people up by the end of the second and it is done safely . It is VERY important to do lessons lets not forget you are connecting yourself to a kite which can easly lift a small car off the ground so what could it do to you . Drop into the bay and come and see us if you got more questions or a run through after lessons and I can help you . Most of the crew , get up there in easter time nice se winds with nice swell out the front of the river yet to get there myself as busy working . Good luck and pm if you need more help .
Hi Josh. Contact Mat Colefax through F-One Australia, one of his team riders lives in your area named Caleb, he is really helpful and should be able to help. I have seen an advert for an instructor on the noticeboard at the take away at Elliot previously, not sure if he still operates. Pauly from Advanced Kite and SUP based in Hervey Bay often travels up there, give him a call. Don't be worried by the above comment, no kite I've ever seen can lift a car![]()
Hey burkey I use mine kite to get the suziki out of the bog at di as a joke I attached my kite to bulbar with a big carabina and said I will get it out . dove kite and it lifted it up of ground about 2 meters and dragged it about 6 meters off to the side of where it was bogged , leaving a mark in the sand from the towball was the only mark no tyre tread or any thing . Ok was only a little seria but it scared the crap out of me , was an 11meter in 14 knots . The first thing my brother said to me was "you connect yourself to that " I said hell yer while still trying to put ass bone back in place from the huge puckering . TRUE story . Just trying to let above person know not even for a second think that the kites we use cant be treated like a kids toy and they CAN develop massive amounts of power to the extent that even I didn't think they could .
Good information with Caleb and Pauly
Sounds mental Sam, you do realise what you're telling me is that an 11m in 14knts lifted a vehicle with a kerb weight of 1045kg 2 metres off the ground?

500 when new dave!
Yep like I said before freighten the s**t out of me . I do think that there must have been a gust come through at that time but any how it did happen . No I have no video just me and brother and wife and son and son inlaw and 2 daughters saw it . The lines do have braking strain of 500 kgs per LINE and if we are on that matter prob only 2 were taking the load at 1 time as per the lifting dyamics on lines and angles as such . It was mental as and was only supposed to be a joke . But if iam bogged again no one else is around it would still be on my list to do with the aid of someone driving it would prob get the old landcruiser out as I don't have suik any more and I know a kite couldn't lift 3 tonnes if it did that would be freeking mental .
I'm at Rainbow for few days this weekend so hopefully the predicted Friday N's come through. N's feel ok today already, so should be out at some stage.
yep just about to pump up myself waiting for the tide to go down a bit very washing machine like water out there at the momet . you lucky bloke wish I could get to di have a blast .

Hey mate, i actually live at Elliot heads, as you have said no one around here teaches anymore, there is a pretty close tight nit kiting community and most people are friendly provided you are safe, Caleb is a F-One rider and you can find him over Facebook but im unsure as to whether he would be willing to teach. Andrew Ward moves back and forth from Canadian and when he is back he teaches. i think he usually comes back over Christmas. PM if you have further questions

I have had my 12 meter kite flip my 250KG quad bike gave me a bit of a fright rolled it three times it didnt get to far off the ground though just rolled.
I have kited at elliot heads as a non local and i met a local kiter there John and he gave me some advice as I was only beginning then to swim out across the chanel from where the main body were kiting and use the more shallow less current affected water opposite, this kept me out of the way and gave me space to make mistakes, they then helped me land the kite when i got back in good bunch of blokes
