Hi guys,
any body got any experience on the 17m Edge (2011) and the 17m zepher?
Im thinking about getting one or the other to complement my quiver of 2009 instinct sport +'s.
I havent flown either of the above.
cheers guys
I haven't flown either. However i do own and love my Best 17m Taboo![]()
It has a really direct yet light feel through the bar with its rear line connections (no pulleys). Features a surprisingly tight pivotal turn for such a big bloody kite. I really like its light wind ability to produce lift and keep its speed up ( i.e. it fly's very efficiently sheeted/ trimmed out.) The only real downside to this kite is the amount of time it takes to pump it up.
Try out as many different kites as you can, choose whatever feels right for you.
I've tried the 2011 Zephyr many times now and really like this kite for low wind performance. The 17M Edges arrived this week and I have not had a chance to test them yet. I do have an amazing new lightwind board from Underground the 1.49x50 Stella asymetric 6 fin job that I dragged 20,000klms back from Fuerteventura, I was so impressed with this board that when it became available I snapped it up, also have a new 1.29.39 2012 Crypt.
We are bound to get some light wind days over th enext few weeks and I'll be putting these two through their paces on Botany Bay, hopefully with pics and video.
The 17M Edges are being put to good use at the world kitesurf racing championships in Sylt germany where the Ozone team are killing it. More info on the Worlds here

I purchased the Zeph recently after demo'ing the 17m Zephyr, Taboo, Griffin and Core.
All kites worked well for me, but my personal preference was the Zeph over the others. Im around the 105kg mark, and my other kite is a 12M (Cab SB). I find the Zephyr has a very good overlap with my 12m as it has a great top end, and handles gusts really well. I'm yet to purchase a dedicated light wind board, so cant really comment on the bottom end. But on my TT (Shinn Monk 135x44) I have been out a number of times when the winds picked up rather quickly, and on the Zeph its not a problem, quite managable and Im not out of control or overpowered. This was a pro for me, where as the Core max's out pretty quickly at about 15knts, and at my weight not giving me enough overlap with my 12m.
Like everybody says....demo demo demo to find what suits "you", and preferably back to back to make a really good comparison.
