Any help whould be sweet.![]()
yes, leashes are wonderful, saving all that nasty body-dragging.
try searching the general kiting forum, just enter the word "leash" and you'll find the info you need.
Hey Dojo,
People just don't get it. I came across a guy teaching his girlfriend (~60 kilos) yesterday at Pinnaroo Point in a mere 28-32 knots on a 6m 08 Airush DNA ![]()
She was wearing a harness, life vest, helmet and a nice reel leash connecting her to a 2009 North board. ![]()

For those that don't know, North 2009 FR fins have trailing edges sharp enough to slice tomatoes. ![]()
I told him to dump the leash and his response was that "She'll likely lose the board". I replied better the board that her head.
To give them credit, they packed up and went home soon after, and did disconnect the leash.
Sheesh! ![]()

Kite Killer don't listen to them, if you understand the mechanics of a leash and use it sensibly then any risk involved is greatly mitigated.
Any way, to actually help with your question, according to their site all parts are replaceable. You may be able to get them through your local shop or get in contact directly with the manufacturer.
Kite killer , best to learn how to body drag first and write your name , number and a "reward offered" on your board ..
Kitehard your post sucks, all your did was say the leash is bad. Heres a bloke thats coming to you for advice and is obviously aware that the leash is bad.
With your 10 years experience you could offer him a range of knowledge and background but instead all your said was the leash is bad, sighting some example that has absolutely nothing to do with his question.
Taurus,
If I tell kite killer where to get spare parts rather than trying to dissuade him/her from using it in the first place, I would be indirectly advocating leashes should be fixed and are therefor are OK for use. They aren't!
But what if I add a weak link? But what if? But what if? ......
It's all unnecessary if you can body drag effectively back to your board in ALL conditions.
Let me make this abundantly clear to anyone considering a leash.
IF YOU CANNOT BODY DRAG UPWIND, BACK TO YOUR BOARD, YOU ARE NOT READY FOR THE WATER START ON THE BOARD YET!
Practice MORE!
Sorry if I offended you, but my advice still stands!

I like your example Darren. 30 knots and a learner sounds like a recipe for some decent teabagging with 4 razor sharp fins chasing her down.![]()
Not only is learning to body drag necessary but it will teach you to control your kite for when you grab your board. I wonder if giving learners some kind of boogy board for learning to body drag would make it more fun.

Enjoy your reel leash.
I had a freindly chat to someone today about leashes and was basically told that these bad boys have no energy. The guy thought it was cool for his wife to be out with a leash and no helmet or anything - apparently the instructor they had for lessons recommended and sold them the leash - it would be nice if all instructors were on the same page and pushed the same message.
this happened to a guy on his first day of his holiday in Bali, didnt even make it into his board. Little gust of wind hit him and lifted him and board flicked back and hit him. Felt sorry for him, had to walk down and grab his kite and land it for him. I think nearly 30 stitches including internal and external. Think he was a guy from Tassy. Wasnt a kook or anything just got caught out.
Come to Caloundra and see the prevalence of reel leashes. They must be on special!!!
With very few exceptions the reel leash user has really bad poo stance, cannot body drag upwind, pendulum under their kite when they jump, wear a bucket hat, sea specs and fly their 12m bow kites in 30+ knots.
Leashes should contain in the packet: 1 free helmet, one instruction book on How to Body Drag, trim your kite and not look like a goob in the water.![]()
