Anyone have some suggestions for hooks wall mounted. (Row of 10 beside outdoor shower) Strong and long enough to hold wetsuits, towels, boardies etc. Must be rust & salt proof. I've gone through about 5 different sets. Salt & rust seems to kill them. Most companies seem to lie when they say they are aluminium, and are coated alloy (Ikea), and many of the stainless ones nowadays are crap and leave rust stains down a white wall. Thought I had solved it when I mounted some bamboo ones but they have all just softened and rotted. Most life I had was out of home made timber dowel, but missus hated 'the look". If you have a good drying setup idea or any photos, please post. Cheers ![]()
That's a pearl-er of a problem you have ![]()
Yes...to add to the woes every Google search with hook in it tries to hook me up with local single grannies.
Some very inventive people on here, was hoping someone had made or used something, or knew of something I could recycle. No harm intended asking for help & advice. cheers
You might have to DIY it. Try you local friendly metal fabricator ( a boat builder/ repairer if you got one) and look at what aluminium flat bar or rod they have. I made a few useful boat bits from 40mmx 4mm bar for racks and hooks to store scuba tanks, hold dive hoses etc. Its easy to shape and it won't rust. You could prolly find a small size that will work. I'd get some hardwood and bend up a series of "U" or"J" shapes and mount them on the hard wood. Get your Mrs to find a timber "look" that works for her then go with that.
(BTW the fat lady and I had a lovely cruise up the estuary and back yesterday through the pelican and swans a proper wildlfe tour...- I love that Kite- cheers)![]()

I don't miss pumping her, but I do miss her some light days.
Thanks am considering the aluminium, plus got a message re a bag of 10 plumbing copper 90 degrees bends with caps. Can do same with poly. Fix a cap on wall then put bend on it. I'll let the boss decide. Ta
Just get your local blacksmith to sell or make you a set out of wrought outdoor iron. You will be dead before those beauties rust.
If all you want to hang up is wetties and towels etc, why not a few metres of poly rope under the eaves? Two cuphooks ($5) and 5m of poly rope ($3).
Else, you know wood does not rust? Broomstick or something for rails. Done.
All the fabricating ally and stainless ideas seem a bit excessive and bloody expensive.
316 stainless. Whitworths or the likes.
2nd this. Go to a marine chandlery store like Whitworths or Bias Boating.
Steel cable and wire and hooks all have a narrow radius. Hanging wet wetsuits and such on them causes stress and ultimately tears the fabric.
