Down winder Quinns to Yanchep
A few of us have made the 17k run down from Quinns to Yanchep Lagoon normally on a Southerly or South westerly. This is a great scenic down winder passing Eglington rocks and the Alikmoss wreck. We have raced it full on downwind in a straight line this is very hard on the legs and is much easier if you cut from Quinns to Eglinton Rocks then back to the beach and so on. Beware it gets very choppy around Eglington Rocks especially on the seaward side, also once past Eglington there is less reef along the coast so this increases the swell. You do need to go in groups and watch out for each other, the beaches are clean most the way but you may have a long walk.
Alikmoss is now open down to the beach which is about half way so you can always leave a car there just in case. When you get to Yanchep Lagoon be aware of the reef at the Lagoon, take a look at it on google earth so you know where it is as it???s not easy to see on the water, go north of the Caf?? 200m or so then into the beach, there is also a break in this area so watch out for it or catch it!
It???s a good idea to take a phone with you and a PFD essential, let others know you are going so that they will expect you to call in when you get there. It should take about 30-40 minutes for most and those that go for it 25 minutes! Check your gear well before you go.
I own the Caf?? at the Lagoon and have told the staff to let Kiters use the phone there to make a call to let people know they have arrived safely if they don???t have a phone with them. I have also told staff to extend our tradie discount to any kiters that come in. You can leave a car in the Lagoon car park and put your keys in a bag and give it to the staff at the Caf?? who will hold them for you till you return.
THIS IS NOT FOR BEGINNERS you should be an experienced kiter.
When you visit the Caf?? please sign the petition to save the Caf?? from closure.

Good on you for providing some services to support kiters.
I've never done the downwinder but did the Lagoon to Two Rocks run once, thats fun too.
For anyone that would like to Kite Surf off the Lagoon (not in the Lagoon) they can put their car keys in an envelope with their address on and leave it with the Cafe staff for safe keeping until they return.
