But do we ever get any Northerly winds in WA over 15 knots?
Im goofy and really hate going out in switch (as I cant do backside yet) and all we get is howling southerlys (which im not complaining about, love em...) Just curious...
Winter time for kitable NW.
I'd say you get about 4-5 good solid fun NW each year.
this year i kited one.
Sometimes you get North or NW when we are troughed. However rarely is it 15kn+
????? that makes no sense. if you're goofy it means you ride the wave fronthand in a southerly. in a northerly you have to ride on your backhand.
I think he means heading out as in, 'on the way out through the whitewater'......which would be on his backhand 'heading out'
Well it would be called "toeside" then... not "backhand" as you aren't on a wave heading out. However I understand how most kitesurfers could get confused with this, as most of them think riding 6m out in front of the wave and then whipping the kite back around and hurtling back up the face is also "waveriding".
All he means is he can't ride easily both ways yet. Probably could have been posted in the nood forum. To answer your question, not really. The conditions that we do get strong Northerly winds aren't really days for beginners to be out anyway.
A couple more sessions and you'll have it. Everyone has a preferred direction but after one season it'll feel just as natural in both directions.
Maybe I may pose the following question ![]()
If your on the East Coast riding backhand in the southerly your stance would be goofy or natural?
If your on the West Coast riding backhand in the southerly your stance would be goofy or natural?
Alot of lightbulbs are finally switching on i think !!!![]()

Rowdy thats the word I meant! Thanks buddy. And yeah I wouldve posted it in the n00b forums but I get greater enjoyment from you lads. I started Kitesurfing (boarding whatever) in 2007 and then left for a 3 year gap to chase tail, skydive and learn to surf... so im pretty much a noob still
No more a dolt than Rowdy's a tool. You guys are fairly evenly matched.Maybe you could hook up via the SUP forum.![]()
Just had to post - I like the title [}:)]

The ultimate armchair p a iss time - wishfull thinking (the word 'get' fits in somewhere)..
Should have known better...
I did hang-gliding for 25 years - always pondering how to bribe the wind / sun gods - so instead of taking up golfing I took up this -- doooohh - but when it happens it is a 'hole in one' every time.![]()
