Kitepower is hosting a demo day at Dolls Pt this weekend, the forecast looks like decent NE on both days, maybe a bit stronger on the Sunday.
JB is coming with a truck load of the new Naish gear, kites and boards.
Kitepower will also complement his stuff with our own Sigma kites and boards.
There will be Cabrinha SB3 8/10/12/14M, CB312/7, Revolver 11M, Convert 9/12M, Contra 14M
Best Waroo 08 11M,
Flexifoil Ion2 8.5M, 10.5M, 12.5 and 16.5 (maybe)
Ozone Instinct Light 9/12, Sport 9/11/13, Edge 11M
Slingshot Rev 11M and T2 12M
Flysurfer Speed2 10M
There will be boards from Naish, Cabrinha, Underground, Nobile, Cardboards, CrazyFly, etc.
At the end of each day, Kitepower will throw on some beers, so hang around, maybe we will do the Pizza run too!
The beach is being bulldozed tomorrow, so it might flood at high tide, the good side of that it that it keeps the punters away.
We will be introducing locals and non locals the new local rule of don't walk right up to the corner of the groin, the beach past the 2nd pine from the North end. ![]()

Steve,
Is that Sat or Sun or both?
Do you think you'll have the Naish Custom Wave boards for demo (CR/FR/Fish)?

Yeah fairly sure there will be a selection of Naish Surfboards, as well as some Surftech boards and the new Cabrinha boards.
Flysurfer Speed2 demo will be there.
Punters, are not the kiters, they are the members of the public who come and set up camp in the middle of the launch and landing zone and refuse to move, etc, etc.

New guy here.
Really looking forward to the KP demo this weekend as an intro to Aussie-style kiteboarding. Sounds like a solid good time event.
Can someone please suggest the easiest way to travel to Dolls Point from the city (Coogee, actually)? Knowing the final best bus route and stop would greatly help.
Thanks.

Guidelines for sustainable continued use of the beaches at Dolls is a better way of putting this.
We want to discourage all people from walking right up the the south side of the rock groin, where the beach is now about 2-3M wide at high tide.
This practice to gain 10M of upwind advantage is so dangerous, completely unnecessary, and will (and has) lead to carnage if the kite luffs in a wind lull. The neighbours houses are at risk, the power lines have been taken out, and members of the public walking and riding along the pathways have been hit.
Plus you will put your kite into the trees if there is any lull, and that usually results in a destroyed kite and really bad PR for us kiters as we hack up and damage the trees trying to get the kites down.
We are also discouraging all locals and other riders from riding within 2 line lengths of any part of the beach, North or South of the groin!!
This will mean no jumping in the flat water behind the groin at high tide, - go to Towra or just jump further out.
I have nearly hit a swimmer in the area behind the groin and I have seen and heard of other near misses. People swim underwater and then just pop up for air in front of you, very scary and hazardous when it happens I can tell you!!!
Dolls is a popular area with swimmers, children and family groups, boats, yachts, jetskis, etc, and all these people have as much right as us to use the area without being taken out by careless riding.
There is a growing "locals" presence, and if you screw up or ride carelessly or selfishly, you will be confronted about modifying your riding.
Over time the SSKC will lobby Council to have some designated kite areas, but I am sure Council will not allow "Exclusive Use" by any group. I have been through this every year when I apply for my permits and licenses, I know their attitude to sharing and co-operative use of public lands and the waterways in the area.
Please join SSKC and make sure you are amember of NSWKBA too so that you are insured.

So what's this new rule????
good plan the new rule
though the lobby idea has risks involved. what if yes the council decide yes we should have designated areas. yes might be bad,as they could close dolls and kurnell to you all and hand you over some lame spot, and ban you on a permanant basis from your favourite.be very careful i would think
Yes, I agree have been holding off for years.
However even blind freddy can see now that there are going to be congestion issues this year and beyond.
Consultation and communication are key to getting what we need, in my experience.
The Rockdale Council likes kitesurfing, they have featured kitesurfing on their calendar for the last 2 years. We have good relations with them, and they like the fact that we have been pro-active so far.
The danger of a do nothing/stay under the radar approach may be a total ban anyway?
The numbers of inexperienced kiters turning up at Dolls and other local beaches, teaching mates who have no idea at all how to fly a kite, selfish and careless tourist and local riders, once a year onshore winds kiters, etc, etc.
We have to do something to save our local spots from this annual onslaught!

It will be on again today, we should be there around 10.30am
Wind is NW and light now, but it will turn NE around midday I reckon and with the runout tide all arvo till around 4.30pm it should be a great day, and Its DAYLIGHT SAVINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yesterday was a bit light for a lot of serious demoing, lots of the locals had a go, it the light conditions.
At the end of the day the only kite still flying and able to stay upwind was the 19M Flysurfer Speed2 Silver arrow, pretty impressive bottom end, the wind was less than 8 knots and there was not tide asisst.
We ended up just sharing some beers and were packed up and gone by 5.30, but it was still a great day in the sun and was great to see so many people, hopefully conditions will be better today.
Flew the 13.5 Cult, when I had 30 mins to get on the water before lunch, nice kite!

Great weekend, thanks Kitepower for putting the day on, and also thanks to all the Dolls crew, it was great to meet those that I didn't already know and to catch up with those that I did. Bummer the wind didn't play as it said it would but I the weekend was still a great success IMO as all kites were out on the water at some point of time over the 2 days. Again, great day, great beers, great BBQ. Hope to see you all again soon,
Regards,
JB
Bummer we got ripped for wind yesterday! There was a period of about 2 hrs where it was possible to kite, then storms moved over from the SW and that was the end of if for Dolls.
We could see people still riding at Kurnell for another 1-2 hrs, but even with the tide at Dolls we just did not have enough and in the end had to rescue a couple of guys, who have incurred a slab of beer debt, which must be paid or no more rescues! ![]()
Thanks to everyone that helped out especially JB, EM, Ben, Boony, Col, Frank, Matt, etc, etc, sorry if I missed your name.
We will be doing more of these for sure. November is busy, but with 20 demo kites, and another dozen boards, we need to keep doing them to justify the cost.

Thanks for the nice demo days even if I have had no chance to try one of the new kites because of the light winds.
But at least I had a nice boat trip in the bay
Thanks again for the rescue and I am happy to settle my part of the debt next time when we hopefully have some more wind and less current
or should I say more skill not dropping the kite with outrunning tide and a NE wind? ![]()
Cheers
Bjoern
Thanks KP. Pity about the wind. All we needed was a few more Silver Arrows and 15m Speed 2s. It sure was nice having that many boards to try out. I quite enjoyed the nobile 555 135 but damn those footstraps are uncomfy!
Anyway, here is a pic of some light wind cruising. I'm sure the guys in the pic are sick of me posting it everywhere........
cheers
mike
@mike.... I like it and can not see it often enough. It shows a clear message ..... either go for a sailing boat or a FS Speed 2 in light wind conditions ![]()
Hi Bjoern
Yeah, it was amazing to see how light the SA will sail upwind on Saturday afternoon!
As soon as you kite hit the water, Istarted to prepare to get the boat, because I could see the kite drifting towards you.
The way the rescue boat works is that the rescue boat owner must receive the beer payment, before you next need a rescue, otherwise we just drive out to you and throw fish heads and ground fish guts in the water around you.
No beer, no rescue, same with found or rescued boards, no beer no board. In fact no beer and we don't do much at all!!![]()

No worries, the beer is already in my fridge and is waiting for a thirsty rescue boat crew / owner.
But the current was really amazing while riding and especailly when swimming / packing up the lines / kite. Even the boat loaded with 4 people and two wet kites was struggling making its way against the current. It was like a ride on a river.
Cheers
