Hi Folks
Seeking a bit of feedback from anybody who is currently wearing these.

Busted the cartilage off a few ribs about 4 years ago from a waist harness when unhooking. The top of the harness digs into the bottom of the rib cage and stops any movement when hunched up jumping unhooked and ribs compress together. Couldn't laugh, cough, couldn't even throw the leg.....without the cartilage popping out again. Diagnosed with costochondritis, 3 months off the water and had to go to a seat harness to try to reduce the pressure off the ribs. Busted the ribs in the same spot unhooking again last week with a seat harness..... Doc and physio say to give it away altogether as it can become chronic. I can't begin to comprehend giving it away altogether.
So, the spreader bar on the nitrous looks even lower than a seat harness, for those who have had the experience, is there any pressure against the lower ribs when wearing this harness? Even when hunched over?
Plan is to now give away the wakestyle riding altogether![]()

but really don't have a choice. Im hoping to get away with using the Nitrous harness and just ride the surfboard to get my fix.
Cheers
gumby when riding a tt i use ion b2 shorts and dynabar . Love the freedom the dynabar gives me . Does not put any pressure on the ribs whatsoever . I also did a few ribs hence why going to the shorts .
Capt, I use the nitros shorts with the dynabar and find it great. No upwards pressure & way more comfortable using a flotation jacket as it doesn't ride up. I found without the sliding bar that toeside was really difficult. With the rope it has a really loose feeling that takes some getting used to especially heavy weather on a tt. Total package is a bit exe, but I've no regrets at all. Durability seems fine - less wear than my waist harness showed.

Do you ride powered? I've a v7 great bar but find it twists when kite is high and digs in. I've found riding in less than powered conditions is better along with not yanking the hell outta the straps to tighten up. I use it for all styles of kiting except unhooking.
I love my set, I feel I can hold the kite down better in strong winds, there is no riding up on the ribs, which is great, I can keep kiting for hours and hours without coming in on these whereas on the waist I can only ride for 3-4 hours without feeling the need to come in
They look pretty good, I am wearing a seat harness at the moment (mystic - don't know the model) and the shorts look like they bring the load much lower. I have the shortest arms on earth and when in strong winds and kite fully trimmed in I still can't reach full depower comfortably.
I assume these will help with that? Does anyone know?
Also does the spreader bar interfere with the ..... um ...... package? (It does look low)
I've used the Nitrous shorts for a couple of seasons and wouldn't use anything else. All load is spread across the buttocks and none at all is transferred to the ribs / back. The lower height of the hook at first seems odd but it took all of 15 seconds to get used to. The height of the hook also keeps the control bar always in the ideal position. I use the Dakine swivel hook with mine and it works a treat in stopping the spreader pad from rotating upward and reducing wear on the cinching straps. I am looking at using a Dynabar if I start doing more toeside or wave kiting next season which reportedly works great

I just lost my pair of Dakine Nitrous and I'm buying Ion B2 (same type of harness) instead of Dakine. Gotta agree with AirSic, the Nitrous is good but it does have a few issues:
- Spreader bar design is just wrong, don't know why Dakine sticks to it. It unhooks by itself when riding toeside unless you use the dorky red plastic clips - a bit of a kludge solution
- Construction is not very strong, one strap ripped off after 18 months use: the thread they used to sew it onto the harness was thinner / weaker than it needed to be. I had to sew it back on with stronger nylon thread. 18 months before damage is not a bad lifespan, but it was an easily preventable problem by just using higher quality material. I also had some big rips on the pants inner lining from regular use.
- Considering we trust our life and limb to equipment, we pay top dollar for it, and there are better options... I would look at Ion....

Daniel, I am prepared to have the spreader bar smack the package ( and package is bragging.......unfortunately it aint no package) to keep kiting. Plus I kite more than the package gets used.....hope she never logs onto seabreeze!
Bottom line is I love kiting and dont want to ever give it away. If I can get away with these "Shorts" and not worry the ribs then I will give it a go and hope I can still enjoy this great sport....otherwise bring on the zimmer frame and curl up the toes, life is to short not to do the things you enjoy
And thanks to all that replied, once healed I will grab a pair of the Ion and hope for the best.
cheers

Spot on with the use differences between kites and packages for me to. I have to be honest and say I don't rekon I'm proportioned enough to worry about it either (I think) but the spreader bar does look right at that height!
