G'day all.

Could any one recommend a DIY wooden surfboard kit supplier that I could make suitable for wave kiting?

Cheers!

Not sure of any kits. Heaps of stuff on Seabreez and other forums. Best advice i can give is get an idea of what you want, research heaps from the web and have a go. I have made my own surfboards, skimboards, longboards and recently a wake board. I start by finding a board i really like and trying to copy it as best i can. My best results have come from building a 2 part press that has the rocker and camber (or concave) that i want and gluing up layers of 3mm premium ply. After you have the wood foundation you can add whatever you need - fibreglass, carbon, grip - whatever. Learning is the best bit, oh and make friends with your sander (you will be spending heaps of time with it).

Correct! The tricks I found needed mastering were the cloth, squeegie and resin. Those three "beasts" did my head in - chemically and literally. But once you know how to pour, how to squeegie and how to lay cloth (fibre glass) and trim and set, then it's pretty much an easy job. The hard part is preparing, preparing, preparing. And you WILL make mistakes. It's the only way to learn the craft.
