Dammit! I'm missing the cyclone by 3 days! grrrr. I obviously sacrificed my goats to the wind gods too early.

Getting more serious now! This is the current aviation forecast, pretty scary!! The SPECI is the actual current weather, wind @ 101 knots and 700 metres viz in heavy rain!

They are now saying that the eye of the cyclone will pass very near to Bowen, and the diameter of the storm is 1000kms compared to Yasi, which was 500kms across. The wall of the eye is 50,000 feet high and approximately 100kms across, so this is one massive storm! I experienced a cyclone in the late nineties and as the eye passes over you, it's very strange because the wind drops to nothing and the sun comes out!!

Too bad for us in Townsville, with all this Westerly breeze... unless you're on Palm Island or Magnetic on the west side. Didn't see anyone out though

Mate, it would appear that the storm was just getting started looking at these figures later in the morning!
Sustained 90kt+, gusts to 142kts!! This was in fact stronger than the aviation forecast.

I have been on the sunny coast for close to 20 years & this is the strongest wind I've experienced here.
Can only imagine how bad it must have been up north.
