Got sent the following text from a mate who had a bit of an incident on a downwinder:

Blue bottle down shorts.
IT got stung.
Very painful.
Packed up in a rush to get vinegar.
Got kite caught in bag zip.
Ripped kite.
Sh_t.

Needless to say I passed on my condolences for the ripped kite once I'd stopped laughing

The best remedy for blue bottle stings is a hot shower .You get in with it hot and keep turning the cold down so that you can only just bear the hot.Stay in there for 10 mins .It works .I was stung around the neck 2 years ago badly within minutes I was finding breathing difficult the lifeguards put me in the hot shower .20 mins later little pain (except for the 2nd degree burns)and kiting again .No welt mark either .

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but Vinegar is for Jellyfish stings as it neutralises any unfired stings left in the tentacles that are still on the person but Bluebottles (which are not Jellyfish) have nematocysts (stings) in their tentacles that are actually affected in the opposite manner by vinegar causing any unfired stings to go off. While very rarely fatal, it WILL hurt like **** as all of them fire into you at once

I got stung by blue bottles alot on Monday up the coast from Perth. Both arms and legs - especially the upper legs. It seemed that the boardies were funnelling the blue bottles towards the family jewels. Lucky I was wearing jocks and not boxer shorts!

Wore a full length steamer in Perth yesterday as I forgot to take my boardies to the beach.

I felt a bit out of place setting up the lines while being so suited up on a warm summer day.

The extra protection was worthwhile though. At the end of the session I saw the red rash over other kiters.

mrfloat, all you needed to do was to release the string holding your silly bunnings hat on your head, then breath normal.
And yes to the hot water, then take two teaspoons of cement

Photos or it never happened!

Getting stung that close to your major glands (no not those ones - your lymph nodes) is nasty

Likely gonna regret this but,

I was told that urine takes the stinging away!!

Any truth in this?

People have said that urine works, though based on the theory of hot water working best i think the urine remedy only works because of its high temperature.

That and the fact that most of us wouldnt be too keen on having someone urinate on some bluebottle stings on your neck and face.
