Hi Guys,
Has anyone been to Aitutaki in August? I'm 85kg and I have 12 and 9m kites which are fine for Melbourne but I've heard rumours that Aitutaki can be a bit light. Do I need a light wind kite? Also, staying at Ootu's beach. Has anyone kited there or is it just better to stick to Honeymoon Island?
Thanks.
Tom
Hi Thomas
If you do a search you'll find some pretty detailed info from about this time last year on this topic
Hi Tom, plenty of great reports on Aitutaki and it looks fantastic. Wind goes in cycles - builds up over a few days, blows hard for a bit and then backs off for a bit. I'm there from 9 August for 2 weeks, staying at Ranginui's which I think is at Ootu beach. I weigh about 70kg and am taking 11 and 9 m kites. I reckon you want something to get you out in a about 16 knots plus. Only about 12 weeks to go, counting em down! Reckon I'll see you there. Cheers, Chris. ![]()
Hi Tom/Chris,
I was in Aitutaki a few years ago and love it, I was there in July for 10.days blew 15 -25 kts. Stayed at a little place at the southern end of the airport with beach front bungalows overlooking the lagoon. They had a boat to get you out to One foot island and Honeymoon, did a few down winders back to the bungalow from Honeymoon. If no boat you can kite over to honeymoon not far.
Great people great place grab a motorbike you'll have a ball.
Scott.
Sounds like a cool place. How much are flights? From gold coast or brizzy.
Toddy organizes kite tours Glen, it's around $2,500.00 for 12 days (allow 1 day each way for flying) which includes air flights and accom.
