I spose the subjects been raised before, but driving down the freeway last week I kept thinking it would be soooooooo nice to do that shallow flat water off Como/South Perth.
Ok,ok, so I already know about the frreeway & railway danger and I heard about the guy who already crashed his kite on the freeway so I'm not talking about Como in anything remotely Westerly.
But can anyone enlighten me why it cant/shouldnt be kited in a SSE ? Opposite the golf course seems the best location.
Its on my way home from work, its flat water, not crowded, and probably better in a SSE than anywhere else in Perth.
Access is a bit difficult though, but that will keep the tourists away. Today's SSSE looks like pretty spot on wind for Como. But I'd appreciate any helpful advice before I venture out.
We used to do it all the time in our windsurfing days, several trips trips across the foot bridge luggin all the gear. There's no problem with it but the wind is quite fickle and up-and-down. The SE is coming across all that land and hills.
I probably wouldn't do it with a kite unless desperate just due to the variable nature of the wind. If you do attempt it, just watch the bit North of Como towards the city well before the jet ski area. It is marked with signs saying "Foul". It gets very shallow and has lots of rocks that can stick out of the water on low tide. Lost a couple of skegs there.
I am keen to try Perth Water on the next Easterly, specially now they have made a nice sandy beach for rigging and launching
