I feel for you matey, i stepped on one at Pineroo some years ago, the pain is real bad more so than any other injury i have had, what i did for the pain was a bowl of hot water (neutralises poison) and lots of quality german beer..!
Worked for me....

ultra hot bordering on cooking your foot hot is the only way to get rid of the pain . I stepped on one at peli point 2 years ago and foot in water and lots of greens helped with the pain but the drive home was the most intense pain i have ever felt .

damn that sound painful!.
I have never heard of cobblers but apparently the live in waters all around aus:

Found in estuaries and silty bays of temperate marine waters from the Houtman Abrolhos, WA to southern QLD and northern Tasmania, Cobbler prefer areas where the bottom is sandy and weeds provide some cover for their nesting burrows where it remains concealed in this habitat during the day.

I got this from a google search

pretty sure that's what got me twice in Sydney. Once in Pittwater and once in Narrabeen lakes. That sliced cut looks familiar

Hurts like fark... and dont use ice water, got home in some serious pain adn my wife an son (studying to be an osetopath) tell me to stick foot in a bucket of iced water- then they go out leaving me on my own. After a while of even more severe pain, only mildly helped by self-medicating vodka, i tried hot water which reduced the pain significantly

btw, when i was walking up the beach having been sliced by the cobbler and having pulled my new 9m out of a tree after getting hammered in overpowered wind, a couple come by to chat, and she tells me she's been stung before and said that is about as bad as kidney stones, which i've had but i think is worse, and she reckons both are worse than child birth....

guess you're having twins Nick

We have the real deal in qld. The estuarine stone fish is officially the most poisonous fish in the world (I think) and even booties will not stop the spines if you stand right on one. The treatment is as above (hottest water on the sting you can handle). Several people have drowned due to standing on these suckers and just not been able to get ashore due to the pain.
